possibly, audio shop built box...... checked with specs, and seemed to be good. Not saying sundown was bad woofer, just............... not what I thought from the "hype"

Enclosures and install play a huge roll in how something sounds. The settings and everything alter the output.

Not saying what you are saying is wrong, because everyone likes to hear something different, just pointing that out.

I totally agree. As far as I know, and I'm not an "expert" knowledgeable yes, but no expert, installs have been good with attention paid to details such as wiring, box, etc.......

The w7 doesn't have great sq. The w7 has a super soft spider and your other subs probably had stiff spiders. There's more to this but I won't go into detail. Maybe you don't run enough power. I think more people would be impressed with 2 Sundown Z12v3s vs your JL and its cheaper. I've ran 12w7s and 13w7s and I like the way they sound, but it is still overhyped.

I had a 12w7 for a while on 800 watts.

Sold it after 1 month. Wasn't impressed...AT ALL

Never was fond of the w7 line to me the w6 was way better. And believe it or not I had a pair of kicker comps that were the cleanest sounding subs aside from my ultimos that I ha to date. You want to talk sq you need to look at the morel an the w6 cause the w7 doesn't sound all that great. And yes I would take a z12 over a w7 anyday. They are IMHO a much better SQL sub. But I digress because I run a spl sub in my daily and sq sub in my show truck. Lol

theres a JL audio nutt hugger that lives down the street from me, got three JL 13w7s on three jl 1000 watt slash amps in a "custom tuned box to JL specs".

hes got some other jl components and a 4 channel jl amp too....when i drove by he waved me down and asked if i wanted to hear what a "real" system sounded like......ok bro challenge accepted show me whut u got....needless to say i wasnt impressed, i felt rly bad for him espicually after he showed me the reciept for what he paid for this **** brand new and it sounded like bawlz

never liked JL audio much, yes they are pretty good, no not worth the price tag

The 13W7 is a good sub and can get loud on low power if installed right. Most dont install them right so it makes them look bad. The rest of the W7 line up is meh, the 8 was good till more 8s started hitting the market. I still prefer the W6 out of any JL sub, the lower lines you are just buying a name. Same with the amps, if its not a Slash or HD its just a rebadged amp.

Everybody says the W7s get louder then bigger subs cause they have big excursion, excursion dont do jack if the rest of whats need to get loud isnt there, and guess what? Its not there. But they do have some pretty good low end extension.
