but then, if it was going to blow those fuses.... would it not also blow the fuses on the amp as well? well before it blew the ones inline?
It shouldn't, because the current is taken from the battery and if too much power goes through the fuse, then the inline is gonna pop.

Originally posted by Wonderbread did you mean you ahd a 100 amp inline fuse blow 3 times, or 300 amps of inline fuses at once?
100 amp 3 times...lol, I don't know much that could pop a 300 amp fuse...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

hey u guys think i'd have any problem w/ a jbl p80.4(47amps) and a jbl 600.2(53 amps) at aprox 74-80% effecient that puts betwwen 74-80 amps....u think my car probably draws more than 20-25 amps while running??? i have a factory 90 amp alt....trying tot to upgrade if possible.....if not ohh well....chriss any info here would be appreciated

try it out as it is...

if you have problems, then worry about it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

but seriously, rewound alt would be the most help to you...

Originally posted by Wonderbread heh, no kidding, eh?

so you popped a 100 amp fuse?

what did you go up to?

keep in mind hte JBL's are fused with 3 40 amp fuses...

allowing for their max. current draw of 114...
120...

hey guys im sorry i ever mentioned jbl!! lol, but really i think i am going to be going with Diamond Audio everything. Any alternator problems with a 600.1 to a 1000.1 Diamond Audio amp??? Lol? Thanks

just try it out, and if you ahve problems, then fix them..

start by upgrading yoru alt... rewinding it or replacing it..

but seriously, see if you have problems and if you do, then fix them...

straight from Eatel -

The table below is an example of the specifications for a slow blow fuse. You can see that a 20 amp fuse may pass 40 amps of current for as long as 5 minutes before blowing although it probably wouldn't take a full 5 minutes to blow. The times for other fuses will be slightly different.

%of amp rating Opening time

110% 4 hours minimum

135% 1 hour maximum

200% 5 minutes maximum

170 amps is about 150 percent of the amps rating...

taht would have that 120 amp fuse blowing in well under an hour...

follow my logic now?

I've personally tested several 1200.1s.. average draw for them combined at one ohm is 165-170 amp for a sine wave, with a good charging system ( stock system will make the amp draw more current, its ohm's law)

The fuses on the case do not blow for one major reason...

music is dynamic.. therefore.. the amp does not continously draw 165-170 amps... That is why those 3 40 amp fuses on the case do not blow... The fuses can easily withstand 200% of their rating for typical short pull situations (i.e. a bass hit)

running 2 ohm mono, I got around 120 amps of draw on a good charging system...
