electrical question

hey guys, so I just installed a 400watt amp in my car and am noticing the interior lights and headlights dimming a fairly significant amount. I've heard that doing the big 3 should be enough, keeping me from having to replace an alternator and anything else. Just a few questions about that:

1) Would I take it to a car audio shop to do it or the dealership or someplace else?

2) How much should that run (I'm in college and on a TIGHT budget

3) Should that be enough to totally resolve the issue?

They will not do it and probably look at you like your crazy if you ask them to do it hahaha... Just get about 10 feet of some 1/0, trace the right wires and add in the new wire...
