hey, i'm new to this whole forum thing on here. So don't give me crap please. I'd also like to let you know that i know little about electrical.. haha.

so anyway, i drive an 1999 Acura Cl 3.0 V6 and i recently had a system installed in it with 4 gauge wiring, 2 12" audiobahn aw1206t in a vented enclosure ,a kicker ZX1500.1, and a 2.4 farad cap. so i think it's a pretty beefy system, it hits pretty hard. Anyway, i just barely ran into a problem... my subs hum when i'm below 1000 rpm, my lights dim if i'm at a red light, but just slightly, and my emergency brake light comes on everyonce in a while.

Tell me, if it's my ground that's possibly bad, need a new cap, new battery, new and bigger alternator... i've gotten to the point where i don't care the cost anymore, i want my car/system to just be healthy.

Do you know what size your stock alternator is? Is it possible for you to check where they grounded your amp to make sure you see bare shiny metal where it is grounded? What type of battery is under your hood? Where is the gain set on the amp? Make sure the bass boost is all the way down to zero. make sure the subsonic fiter is around 15-20 hz, and make sure the Low Pass filter is around 100-110 hz.

the alternator i have is this exact model... "delphi 31100-p8c-a02" which i assume isn't great, but i just need to know where to get one that is actually good... i did check out the ground.... they did a crappy job and its not bare metal. can i just unscrew it? and sand it down myself? i have the ground going from the amp to the cap to the ground which is on bare metal... so is it ok to just unscrew it? and sand down? the ground is probably alot of the problem.

Yes, sand it down yourself and then put the ground back where it was. Before doing this, disconnect your negative battery terminal to reduce the risk of getting sparks when you re-connect your ground. Disconnecting your negative battery terminal will most likely reset your stock head unit (if it is stock) and you will need to enter a code to get the head unit to turn back on. Make sure you have this code on hand before disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Be warned, when you place the negative battery terminal back on the battery it will spark, but it won't hurt anything just don't be scared.

Also, you might try taking your cap out of the system and seeing if that helps anything. It might be adding unnecessary resistance in the circuit.

the parking brake light thing is unrelated to the stereo, unless you unplugged it and didn't plug it back on all the way.

Most all honda's are notorious for the faulty parking break switch.
