Electrical Problem

that may be so, i just haven't came across one.

but we are talking about a 1973 duster
either way, he can test the system at home by checking the voltage at idle.

check first with no load, then begin adding things like headlights, flashers, fan motor.

the voltage should never drop below 12.5v at idle on the older vehicles.

have you tested idle RPM?

i understand that he has a stall problem but the question was brought up if the new alternator was bad. this is just a simple and fast way of checking assuming everything else is ok.
it does work on new cars!

i guess i understand what you're saying by not proving anything. if the alternator can't meet the demands of the amp draw of the vehicle the car will die even if it's a good alternator, but i've yet to see a 20-30amp alternator on a car.

Guess you dont work on many cars then. I see alot of over 80 amps vehicles. Even more GM now was switching over to run 15 volt higher alternators. Because their computer systems are getting so big that they need that extra voltage. Many cars have over 20 computers on board. Some cars the computers need to see that 13 volts or even higher. You take the alt out and the battery is only at 12volts. The car will shut off. What did you prove nothin.

That work WAY WAY back in the day on Very OLD cars. You grandpa did that. Not the mechanics of today.

STFU....the discussion was about removing the batt + thus removing the battery not alt.

Your insulting/offensive language is not needed here.

GTFO

sure the mechanics of today don't do that. they a have computer telling them what to do.

Ouch you told me to shut the **** up. Didnt know I was talking to you. Guess your a grandpa. Sorry for those harsh words. Pops.

What I wish is the OP would get back on and tell us what he did. Or has done more to tell us whats going on.

ok wow I forgot I made this thread. Anyways, I highly doubt its a bad alternator and a bad battery. This is really ridiculous. I dont think it has ANYTHING to do with my system, because I dont even attempt to turn it on.

how about you do what we've said and just let us know what happens. just tell us what the batt reads when you putt a dmm on it when the car is running

That happens all the time ppl forgetting that they made a thread. Being serious too. But what have you come up with though any new ideas... Your vehicle is stalling but you think it has nothin to do with eletrical part though. Does it stall without putting the Turnsignal on?

Okay so this mechanic I know told me that he thinks I just need grounds. He refered to the "Triangle" which I think is the big 3. I just got some nice wire and Im going to do the big 3. Do you think this is the problem?
