Ok here is the deal. 2002 F-150

Stock electrical setup is a cable from the alt to the primary start solenoid on the firewall and then from there it travels along a fused wire to the + battery terminal.

I just swapped in a 200A alt. and i am running 1/0G wire. I am concerned about running that much amperage across the start solenoid terminal so i am conisdering doing the following.

Run a 1/0 cable from the alt to the + batt terminal.

Leave the fused cable from the + batt terminal to the primary start solenoid

Run a 1/0 cable from the - batt term to one of the bolts that holds the alt on.

Run a 1/0 cable to the body of the truck

IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS?

also. Does anyone know the fuse rating for the cable between the batt and the pri. start solenoid?

that is pretty much what the big 3 is. alt + to battery +, engine block to ground, and battery ground. don't even worry about the starter. just add onto the stock wiring

the stock wiring goes to the solenoid before it hits the battery and i don't want 200A going through that lug on the solenoid

ok i'll say it again. run the 1/0 gauge wire from the back of the alt to the battery positive. don't run it to the starter. leave the stock going to the starter. do you know what the big 3 is?

its not going to the starter! I have two starter solenoids. One mounted on the firewall and one mounted on the starter itself. It goes from the alt to the primary solenoid, to the batt, to the secondary start solenod. I don't have enough room for 2 fat *** lugs on my alt.

why do you need 2 big lugs on the alt? just forget about the solenoids. you should have the 1 stock wire on the alt that goes to the solenoids, then the upgraded wire which goes to the battery positive. the solenoids have nothing to do with the big 3. you are gonna have to find a way to add the stock wire and upgraded wire to the back of the alt. i have not seen an alt with out a big enough stud on it for 2 wires.

the one stock wire is the main cable that connects to the battery after the solenoid.

The stock wire and the 1/0 one would both need to be connected to the back if i was to leave that wire. i am talking about deleting the stock wire that goes to the solenoid from the alt and leaving the one between the solenoid and battery while adding a 1/0 one from the alt to the batt.

is this what you are talking about?

thats the thing, the 1/0 terminal lug will have to go in the same spot as the stock wire and i just don't have the room.
edit: i'll try tommorow and see

never had a problem with fitting 2 wires on an alt before //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
