ok i am gunna be running 2000 watts on a 120 amp alty and just a normal size battery and i am doing the big 3 with 0 gauge wire. do you think that would be enough to withstand that kind of power?

I notice I find questions like this on here a lot (can my alternator handle ____)

The math to figure out your draw is as follows:

Current = POWER (watts) ÷ Voltage

So typical, and assuming you mean 2000wrms

2000 ÷ 14.4v = 139 amps of current draw

Now 139 amps is just from the amp, not including what ever other devices/vehicle usages you have.

Granted, "The Big 3" helps a lot.

Not really. There are too many factors to include when talking about current draw. Music is dynamic, efficiency, an imperfect ground, gain, etc.

Most of the time you're not seeing even half the max current draw from an amp.

2000 / 12 = 166A, add efficiency of 80% bumps it to 208A.

Now, if you listen to bass heavy music, then you could frequently see 100+ amps of draw.

You'll need a 2nd battery and the big 3.

upgrade your stock battery also. i would personally upgrade your stock batt, and see how it is and if you need more then add another in back

I guess in a way that’s what I was trying to say... but just couldn't put it into words. Most of the people I personally know with systems all pretty much listen to rap, and most go for SPL over SQ. I know the mathematic equation is a ballpark number, but usually gives a decent place to start looking from while adding everything else into play
