***Eclipse deck owners***

hey guys, i just got the deck in tonight. and it sounds **** nice. it is really easy to use, i love it. and i like how you can change tracks with the dial, thatll come in handy with my 180 song mp3 cds. 1 thing thats kindof a pain in the *** is that the faceplate doesnt automatically shut when you put a cd in. whats that about? you gotta shut it yourself. but thats minor, i could get used to that. oh and the remote volume buttons are EXTREMELY slow, but its only the remote. this is def the best quality sound ive had in my car by far.

i got a few Qs though. first, i was messing around with the non-fade. i see it goes from -6 - 6 (just like my old pioneer), but when i change it, theres a very minimal change in output. my sub really needs some kinda boost, does this deck have anything to do that?. and second, how do i change bass and treble? please tell me i can. if you tell me i bought another deck that doesnt have that option im gonna be devastated.

BTW, im going to read the users manual. i just figured id ask you guys first cause its gonna take me like 20 years to get through this thing.

adjust the gains on the amplifier, i assume you haven't done this since you moved from the previous hu, have you?

You can only adjust bass, treble, balance, fade etc in Normal mode. That's what's kind of quirky about the deck...and of course the face not closing too. They did this because of the memory stick I think - you need to be able to open and close the face independent of CD function.

I have found that the nonfader is better than my Alpine at +15 by far. What I do is set it to -6 and then adjust accordingly from there which is like having a +12...get it??

I gave up on the remote because it takes for EVER!!

Have fun with it:D

He was correct about the face plate. I think everyone that had a previous eclipse was a bit shocked at first. You expect the face to operate like the old models. Think of what would happen should the operator eject the memory stick. It sticks out slightly. A cd is then insurted and before the operator removes the stick, the face closes. Your buying a new set of gears at that point. The reason the deck loses fade, balance, mid, and bass boost is that advanced mode is for a three way setup. This means that one channel is meant for a tweeter, one for a mid range, and one for a sub. In normal mode it operates as a normal deck. I am curious as to your opinion of the 8445's mp3 speed. I own the 8455 and find it to be very fast. You can select between folders and it operates with nearly no delay. The only delay it does have is when you first place a mp3 disk in and it is scanning the folders. Here is a tip. If you have a mixed disk containing jpegs or non mp3 folders it will take longer for the deck to initialize the cd. I had the 8454 previously and all of the controls were very slow to respond. The 8455 was a tremendous boost over last year.

I doubt this is it, but check your sub setup. Is it on stereo or mono setting on the deck? If you are using mono, then ensure you have the left channel going back to the amp. Otherwise you will not be getting all of the frequencies. I plug a y adaptor between the two for added protection against inadvertantly switching the setting.

I think the crossovers are set to disable from the start, but you should check. If it says pass, your good.

yeah, i found it in the manual. of course i took me like 45 minutes to find out how to get it INTO normal mode. lol but its all good now.

so do you think its safe to set the gains with nonfade at -6 then crank it up to 6? cause i may hafta do that, theres virtually no output

yeah, this is the fastes mp3 deck i ever used. WAAAAY faster than my slow *** 550mp. i have my sub on stereo now. i got a L&R rca going from the deck to the amp. and yeah, my xover says pass

I don't know how people even tolerate the speed of these decks' MP3 switching. It's obnoxiously slow. If this if fast, compared to other models... even worse. I must be spoiled by a different deck, I guess. I just can't put up with waiting multiple seconds between skips. Is it this slow with a MemoryStick too? (haven't tried it on my ((temporary)) Eclipse yet).

mine isnt slow, what are you talking about?

I'm talking about hitting "track forward" and waiting several seconds for it to start playing. If you do that on your PC, in WinAmp, for example, it starts playing the moment you hit "forward"... not several seconds later, like the Eclipse CD8445 I have. I know that HU's have historically had "slowness" issues starting the next track, but I thought that was well dealt with before I bought this '05 Eclipse. Apparently not? I'll stick with my absolutely instant Alpine CDA-7878 from 2002 which is just as fast at tracking as anything technology has to offer.

If several seconds to the next track is tolerable to some people, I think that's teriffic. Not to me though. I haven't listened to a whole song in years. And, when I hit "next", I want it to "be there" before my finger is released from the button, and that's what I'm used to with other sources.

what im saying is that i think there is something wrong with your deck man. cause mine is instant. there is no waiting for the file to load. it may not be like light speed like a high powered computer, but its no more than 1 second at all.
