Eclipse cd7000 is here...

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif Sucks you've had bad luck with the faceplates :/ I've had 2 eclipse decks this far and no faceplate issues though i've abused them both pretty badly and had cd's jammed in one a couple times for 30seconds or so, mid-close. Moving parts is the liability. Wonder if they'll ever go back to non-motorized faces

Why oh why won't Eclipse put off their spage ace , cheap plastic looking construction and start building decks with high quality construction faceplates that don't break ? Their SQ is so good , they should start looking at SQ oriented decks that embrace form following function ..... Instead they shoot for the blinking lights , laser show , youth oriented crowd at the expense of pure SQ in mind...... Personally I'd pay Eclipse $500 more just to be able to buy a no-frills , kick you in the *** SQ deck that has simplicity and superb build quality. Oh well ..... There's still Clarion , Nak , and Pioneer that builds competition level decks, I just wish Eclipse would join suit.
If the american market supported such a product- i'm sure they would...

Best SQ head units I have owned in order are :

Clarion DRZ-9255

Alpine CD-7909 ( 20th anniv )

Mc Intosh MX-400

Eclipse ughh.... I forget ... Is it 5331 maybe ? This was about 7 or 8 yrs ago.

Alpine CDA-7998

My Pioneer only automatically closes when insterting a disc. If it is opened manually or if a disc is ejected the face will stay open til manually closed.
That's a pretty good design and logic with a motorized faceplate, Kenwood does the same. It's a happy medium to Alpine and Eclipse. Alpine does both -- timed (albeit short) and auto (inserted) close. The newer Eclipse stays open until you manually close it yourself; I don't remember this being true in the 8443/8053 but I know the recent 8455 started implementing this.

PS : I've owned 4 of Eclipse's top of the line decks in the past 8 yrs , and 3 of them have had malfunctioning faceplate issues. This is where my question and opinions are based from.
look for the zapco deck. no fancy features there, just plain SQ. the new avn-7000 has that super deep glossy look like the McIntosh products.

Not lazy Skierr. They are just observations and ultimately a personal preference for any user. It's just interesting to see how different companies interpret ergonomics and user interface for their products. Some are very Japanese and technically centric while others rely on focus groups.

Funny .... You usually don't think about Kenwood when you speak of really high SQ , but that anniversary deck is bad indeed. I watched it smoke an Alpine 7998 in a friend's car.

Really Blue? The XXV-01D surprising very good: full bodied and muscial to my ears. It's too bad that it doesn't have an active setting.

I've had three Eclipse 8xxx decks and all are exceptional. I'm just moving on to something with different sonic signature.

He he he .... No no , in this case my use of the word " bad " is good !!! It really did suprise me coming from Kenwood , but yeah ... it's a VERY good SQ deck indeed !

I knew that! I was more suprised that it "smoked" the Alpine. I know this Kenwood is better than Alpines current offerings (MUCH more full bodied sound) but I didn't realize you witnessed first hand the beating it gave to the 7998. Wished I could have been there! :p

The Clarion has a fine following .... I mean , just how many would they have to sell to make it worth it ? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
The Clarion sells peanuts. You have to realize the online/audiophile community is very small percentage of sales. Bling sells. So those that dont have money to splurge on JDM units and external processing have to find the better value/performance amongst the bling.

Also most of the new cars are incorporating more colors into their instrument panel/interior illumination...particularly European cars.
