Really Blue? The XXV-01D surprising very good: full bodied and muscial to my ears. It's too bad that it doesn't have an active setting.
I've had three Eclipse 8xxx decks and all are exceptional. I'm just moving on to something with different sonic signature.
Ya know ... mixing and matching components , wires , ect is just like playing with tone controls. That has been my good fortune and forte' over the years. Owning most all of the higher end equipment allows you to find out just what does , and what does not go well together. Eclipse decks at one time were warm and musical , but with a slight lacking in dynamics.
After about '98 though they became VERY detailed and anylitycal , but lacked in musicality for my taste. They still do lack in warmth and musicality to me. I've made a habit of matching Eclipse decks with warmer sounding equipment and speakers in the last 6 years.
That brings up an interesting point ..... ALL equipment basically leans towards one camp or another ..... clean , snappy , fast , anylitycal, and dynamic .... OR smooth , relaxed , warm and musical. It's VERY , VERY rare to find a piece of equipment that does both really well , and combines all of the mentioned attributes. When you DO find that combo , you usuall pay MIGHTILY for it , for it is the ticket to perfection , or as close as reproduced sound can come to it.
At this time , the Clarion DRZ-9255 is about as close as one can come to that without going to separate DAC units. I describe it to people as warm , detailed , life like , and dynamic. Those usually do NOT go together as i've said before.
Lastly , when i owned my high end home audio store some years ago , I started talking with my 5 salesmen about trying to find out what EACH customer was listening for. We did this by taking them to one system first that was fast and dynamic , almost anylitycal ..... then by taking them to a smoother and more laid back system. It was easy to tell what they preferred really quickly , and our sales went up for the next 12 months by 44% !!!! Occasionally someone would want the best of both worlds , and bought the systems that would give them the best of both .... They usually spent over $30,000 at that point ... Cha-ching $$$
Here's a freebie for ya ..... Need to liven up your system some ? Buy some Rockford Fosgate Riot Matrix cables ( interconnects and speaker wires ) .... Need to subdue a lively system some ? Get some Stinger Pro Series speaker cable ( it's cheap ) and Dream Series Interconnects .....
Got a well balanced system and want a VERY neutral cable ? Buy Streetwires ZN6 interconnects and DAXX silver/copper hybrid speaker wires.
**** , that coffee REALLY kicked in !!! LOL
