I have decided to do a proper build in the boot of my E90 BMW.
This will be my first “proper” install and I would like some help with the planning and siting of the various bits.
The story so far is:
The front stage is a Pioneer PRS 80 which handles the processing as well as sourcing. I have run 3 sets of RCAs from the front to the back as well as one pair of speaker wire. The speaker wires are spliced into the harness at this point so that they go via the factory wire down to the underseat woofers. I have run another pair of speaker wires to this point and they splice into the wire for the door speakers. Perhaps not the neatest method but it gives me independent underseat to door speakers.
The door speakers are mid nineties MB Quart Q line 100mm components, mounted as coaxial day and I have modified the underseat woofer enclosures to take 8” Focal ISU midbasses.
In the boot I have a temporary board with fused power distribution, switched +12v relay power distribution with short runs of OFC 25mm2 to the battery terminals.
The sub amp is a JBL 1400.1 and the subwoofer a JL 13W7. The amp for the underseat woofers is a Sony XM3040F bridged into 2 channels and the amp for the 100mm door mids and highs is a bridged Soundstream Rubicon 355.
I have built a new ported box for the sub which just fits in the gap between the wheel arch hump and have made a mount and bracket for a second 100Ah battery opposite the OEM in the void under the trim where the factory amp would sit. I would like to site the sub as far back as possible in the boot, facing the rear and want to make some sort of deck for it to bolt to. I would also like to lay the amplifiers out neatly in front the sub on some sort of solid deck with a cover of some sort to stop them getting scratched when I need to use the boot.
I attach some photos of the area, can anyone direct me to some possible designs that take advantage of the spare wheel/load space (the car is on factory run flats do no space for one anyway) and have any suggestions I would be grateful.
The problem seems to be that a single flat sheet in t he shape of the Folding central boot liner won’t work as it needs to be linked in the middle. Should one make a two piece for here or a stepped one piece or something?
The second question relates to the beat way to interstate the second battery, I did a search as I imagined this question has been asked before but I came up blank...
Any help or suggestions gratefully received.
