dynamite my door speakers for $100

when i was getting my front door components installed by an audio shop, they told me, "for $100, we can dynamat your door speakers and it'd sound twice as better".

i was thinking about it and did some research on it. the dynamat door speaker kit is about $13 for the oringal version and $18 for the extreme version off onlinecarstereo.com. so basically, $80 is for the labor.

my questions are:

1) is dynamat a well worth investment for my door speakers? why or why not?

2) is this an easy DIY procedure i can do myself even i dont have the roller and other tools for this kind of job?

Sound deadening is nice to have, but not worth that.

Cars are the worst place to have an audio system, two of the reasons:

1. is the shape and size of the car can negativly effect performance of the system

2. outside road noise leaks in to the car and makes it harder to hear the speakers in detail.

Sound deading eliminates one of those problems, and you'll be able to hear more detail out of your speakers and less bass will escape through the car paneling.

Do it yourself. Its not hard. Go to a hardware store to get a roller. They ain't that much. I bought a rubber roller at Builders Square for like $8-10 bucks.

Yes it is worth the effort.

Yea i did the doors myself too and it does improve the midbass tremendously. It's real easy to do but very time consuming but a great experience. make sure you seal them up with some non hardening clay as well.

did you just say 13$ for the door? are you smoking crack laced with pcp? thats for a SPEAKER kit youre gona pay A LOT of money to get a decent amount of dynamat for the doors, 100$ is pretty resonable IF they do the inner part and outer.

so are you gonna dynamat your doors or blow them up with dynamite?

6three6mafia6, its the door SPEAKER kit. not the door kit.

does the speaker kit come with the hardening clay or is that purchased seperately?

non-hardening clay is purchased at home depot or a art store.

i have a question though:

i plan to sound deaden my car eventually too. what im wondering is will i have to take the doors off the car to do it or will it be easier if i do so?? do i basically just take the door apart as much as i can and sticc the mat on it like a big sticcer using a roller? how big should each piece be? for example, do u apply a square foot of it on at a time??

just take your door panel off and then just sit right there with your car to deaden to doors. well thats what i did at least. as for how much, i just put in to whatever fits. there is no set number (well at least to my knowledge) that you have to stick on a certain amount of square feet. Just make sure you get most of your door.

putting in dynamat is probably the longest part of the install process of a car stereo stystem.

It could take close to an hour or maybe longer. I would recommend not dealing with the hassle and just pay them to do it. $100 total is not bad at all.

Especially if you have cheap plastic doors---- if you can add some bulk to hunker around the speakers it's like youre driving around in a much more insulated sound stage than you would have without it.
