Dynamat vs Fatmatt on a budget

I've tested that for the new version of SDS and ended up having a confrontation with the guy selling it. He's been claiming it was butyl since he started selling it and I took him at his word. I didn't like the Mylar protective layer - similar to eDeads and just not as effective as aluminum foil.

I started doing tests and one after another came back positive for asphalt. I posted on another forum where people had been discussing the product, including the OP who had PM'd me to let me know he was getting free product to talk it up, to say that there were some problems in testing and people should hold off ordering for a day or two until I could get them resolved. What I was really doing was contacting the seller to give him the chance to man up and explain what was going on and what he was doing about it. Shit happens and I was still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. What I got was a denial that it was asphalt and the strange assertion that even if it were, it wasn't his fault since he ordered butyl from his manufacturer. Then he threatened to sue me if I mentioned that his product was asphalt, mentioned that he was in the same small town as FatMat and R-Blox and a few other things.

Funny thing is, I got the sample from one of his customers because the owner had threatened to sue me if I didn't test his product. Very strange person and the product is LESS effective than FatMat - asphalt, thin plastic protective layer and the weights are all overstated.

What you are smelling is coming out of your own mouth. So you are admitting to being nothing but a loud moron who wouldn't be able to prove anything he said. Who knows, you probably believe that odors can travel 3,000 miles. It must **** being being that stupid and not being able to keep your mouth shut. Talk, talk talk and can't back up a single thing. Sure lots of people will read this and conclude that your's is the considered position.

Yeah, what a shock. From your obsession with my ***, I'm assuming you are taking the she said side? Nice work ponce. You'll be missed.

thanks once again
rick from raamatt hasnt contacted me yet i think i ust might go ahead with that dynamat trunk kit
Dynamat is good stuff, just tends to be pretty pricey. If you have a good hook up, go for it.

Interesting. . . I have never deadnend a vehicle? Boy i've better deadend a vehicle better than YOU ever will with that attitude, if you think im bs'ing LMK and and i'll post my pics when i deadend my camaro with 2 layers of Damp Pro, Sludge, Overkill, and Heatwave. Just the fact that you use 1/2 assed deadner is a testamate of how bad of a job you probably did deadnening......... you wont even acknowledge better materials.....

eDead ftw???

jokes, I have jokes, funny thread, but I will say, I have used that Fat Crap and it sucked. I have since used eDead and like it, I have a 2 layers of eDead v1 and then a couple layers of the eDead v3, I believe. Its the liquid. I like it so far and its pretty well priced, but you will probably need at least two layers of v1.

There isn't any one FTW product in this category. There are really expensive, high quality products and really cheap, worthless products. FTW to me would be top quality for really cheap. Fact is, all of the raw materials cost something and the better they work for our purposes, the more expensive they are - sadly.

If money is no object, Cascade, Hushmat and Second Skin are top of the line and very close to each other in quality. For most people, Second Skin is going to be the cheapest in this group. If you have a local hookup for Cascade or Hushmat, you might do better.

Next down the line is Dynamat Xtreme. In most cases, very expensive, but again, a good deal without shipping can make the difference.

RAAMmat comes in at slightly lower quality that Dynamat Xtreme, but almost always much cheaper. Still the sweet spot for value and quality is good.

Next down the line is eDead. Much improved from their former asphalt products, but I very much prefer a thicker aluminum foil protective layer because it improves performance in several ways. If budget is the top consideration and you are will to compromise some on the finished product, I'd pick the v!SE². V1² is too thin and you will need a stupid number of layers and UE is too thick to make any sense.

Next you drop into the realm of asphalt mats and I can't recommend any of them.

Just like so many things, it's all about compromise.

I dont understand why people dont use sray deadener like spectrum on trunk lids. Much less prone to fall off, and can be sprayed up inside the crevices.
Sorry I didn't respond to this before - kept having to step over turds and got distracted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Liquids can work very well. Generally, applied in equal thicknesses, I'd expect the liquid to be slightly less effective than a mat. The aluminum foil constraining layer definitely adds something to the mat. A layer of liquid on top of a layer of mat may be the ultimate solution. I've done it and have been very pleased with the result. The liquids tend to cure into more of a hard rubber consistency than the mats, so it makes for a very neat job when you seal all of that sticky goodness in.

Something else to consider is the different requirements for each product type. Some of the liquids can be brushed on, but if you are going to spray, you have to mask and have a protected place to work. Pastes can be troweled on, but liquids take several coats to get to an effective thickness, with drying time between. It can take a long time, so liquids may be a better option for vehicles that can be taken out of service for a few days or have been stripped for other work.

Either or both can be a great option. Just different.

It is, now that it is butyl based. Of course, it is HIGHLY overpriced.

I used eDead v1 last year (the butyl kind) in 2 layers in my rear hatch in the spare tire well and all, with a nice layer of the v3 black (my car is black) on top of it to give it some uniformity and to hide a couple screw-ups. Mind you, the car is built like a tin can and has an aftermarket catback and gets fairly noisy in the car, but after just 2 layers of v1 and a coating of v3, the car is so much quieter... and I have plenty left over. Ima use in in my beater! 75 sq ft of mat and 1 gallon of liquid for less than $150 FTW!

I'm trying to get hold of rick at raammat to see how long the wait is for a roll. He must be pretty busy. How long have ppl been waiting for the shipment that just came in? Seems that the trailer that came in today is all done with orders and will have to wait for the next shipment.

So, in the end, you were just alot of hot air and bullshit after all. Wow, what a surprise.

I'm getting some second skin damplifier and overkill that I'm going to put all over my car except the roof. I'll let you know the results.

for 270 bucks (82sq ft. of Damp, speaker kit, 86 sq ft. of overkill) this better work really good!
