Dynamat install tips? newbie...

I have a bunch of Dynamat Extreme and Tacmat that I want to use to reduce road noise in my car but I am looking for tips on where and how to apply it.

So far I did the driver's door...I applied the Dynamat over all the large voids/holes in the sheet metal and then put the door panel back on. Is this the correct way to do it? I have no idea where the Tacmat goes of if I should even bother with it?

What exactly is the installation goal with these products? Any advice would be appreciated.

idealy you would want to take sheet metal, and apply it over those holes in the door panels, then apply the dynamat over that. the goal is to reduce rattles, roadnoise, and make your music sound better.

well the correct way to do the holes in your doors is to cut a piece of plexi or sheet metal and cover it in dynamat and then glue it to the door. dynamat in large areas like that is floppy, and wont be as effective.

some tips for deadening: take your time, vacuum the surface, wipe it down with denatured alcohol, and use a head gun to apply it. start off with smaller pieces, and gradually get bigger, untill you are comfortable.

installation goal-significant less vibrations, less road noise, better resale, etc. not very familiar with tacmat, but i think it may be for behind speaker use

The goal is to create a barrier where the void is to reduce the noise that comes in tot he car. By covering up the holes you also create a more stable environment for the door speakers to perform in. Closer to an enclosure. What you did sounds like it is good. Pics would be very helpful.

The "correct" Way to treat the access holes in the doors is not to cover them up with something that will have its own resonant problems, and to chose somthing that efficiently blocks airborne sound waves as well. Metal and plexi are both less than desireable choices but will work.

The best thing we have found is to sandwhich a layer of closed cell foam or heavy vinyl or lead between a couple sheets of constraint layer damping mat.

The one thing I would add is use protection. Dynamat Extreme and similar product can cut you good. Reaching into your door can cut you up too. Get long sleeve gloves. Same with eye protection if you using cleaners (and rubber gloves).
