The cable is rated at the specific frequency for 1080p. 720p cables aren't made of the same quality and sometimes can't handle the 1080p speed (which is RF speed) and can have a roll off, loose data, or various other things when you are dealing with digital signals at super super fast speeds.How do you only get 720p out of HDMI cables? all HDMI cables are essentially the same, they either work or they don't.
Cheaper cables doesnt mean you can't get full 1080p out of it.
PS3 upconverts my DVD's to 1080p through the HDMI cable. Looks good, but Blu-ray is definetely the way to go.
