At some point, it will need to be upconverted to the display's native resolution (whether it be 1280x720 or 1920x1080). However, the scalar (aka upconverter) built into most TVs is of poor-to-mediocre quality most of the time. What these upconverting DVD players (and upconverters) do is use higher-quality scalars to upconvert to the screen's native resolution, so you have less aliasing, artifacts, and shimmering (higher quality picture). If it's not recorded in HD how can a dvd player convert it to HD,i have supposedly a very good 1 and I can't tell a difference
You can get up to 720p on component, but the quality suffers.as far as i knew, you cannot improve picture quality on a normal dvd simply by using a dvd player. if it isn't burned blue ray or hd, you won't get that picture. the cables will make a difference. you can't get an hd picture without using hdmi. correct me if i'm wrong, but using the hdmi made a difference. blue rays on the ps3 look very good.
ok. that makes sense. You can get up to 720p on component, but the quality suffers.
While it's not HD, the difference between a standard DVD up-scaled to 720p/1080i/1080p is night and day compared to it's native 480p.
One of the BEST ones for the price is one from OPPO Digital.can anyone suggest a good upconverter? im quite interested now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
