You're almost talking to yourself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifIn any case, SQ is still subjective. Why do you think there are so many different brands and types of high end speakers? Look at Image Dynamics vs. Focal. Image Dynamics are known more for their warm sound. Focals are known more for their slightly harsher, more crisp sound. I love my Focal tweeters I'm using. Other people will hate them and want something a little softer. Both companies are known for SQ and have different sounds. Also, like I previously stated, SQ can be measured to an extent, but not anything like SPL. With SQ, you can see how flat of a response curve you have, listen for TA, and make sure all the sound is coming from up front. TA and staging are pretty unarguable aspects of SQ, however, some people if not most people will not like a flat response curve. So, you may think that saying SQ is subjective is wrong, however, it is subjective. He needs something better to compare his 12 inch xPlodes to. I guess an 18 off of 300 RMS isn't enough to change his mind.
Not almost, totally. You're almost talking to yourself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I (for better or worse) usually end up trying to explain things to them to help them see the light. There will always be these people...I usually dont try and converse with them, just kinda laugh at them

The "Xplodes sound like a rhino farting" thing is an exaggeration, yeah. The Xplodes, in a proper installation, can sound surprisingly decent. Sony's not run by engineering idiots, they know how to make well-design products. It's more that they cut corners like crazy to minimize cost and so it's just cheap. Spending the same amount of money on better brands will yield a better setup but it's not like Sony stuff sounds like a whoopee cushion or anything.ok so i saw the kid with the xplodes again today and he let me hear them. and i must admit that they were loud. louder then the two 12 4200 eclipses i had but certainly not louder then my 18. and as far as the 1300 watts he was claiming.... well ive never seen 1300 watts put through 12 guage speaker wire but once again what do i know. and i doubt his xplodes are gunna last very long because he had his gains on both his hu and amp all the way up. u could hear the clipping at like half volume. lol but hey hell learn.
Okay... I almost forgot; I know nothing. Not almost, totally.
This is true, but the argument I was making is that not everyone likes/wants a flat response curve. Personally, I like a little more treble, Maybe around 10 kHz to 12 kHz. That's why I chose Focal. I don't have to adjust my EQ as much to get the sound I want. If I went with Image Dynamics or another "smoother" speaker, I'd have to boost the treble, possibly causing my HU's preouts to clip, in turn degrading the overall SQ of my system and shortening the life of my speakers with the square waves heating them up.I was listening
for real though, "harsh" and "warm" are nothing but EQ differences that can be changed with processing.
as long as each speaker is playing within linear output (aka no distortion) than the signal the speaker is reproducing is just fine - it's the volume of the different frequencies that can vary wildly from one speaker to another. A "better" speaker generally has a flatter response curve out of the box, and can play louder within the range of linearity.
My Sony CDX-C90 stayed in my 1996 thunderbird when I traded it in sometime in 2000. I had so many "no eject" problems with that POS deck that I couldn't be bothered to keep it. It was only repaired 3x in the few short months that I owned it.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gifAnd, fvck everyone, I liked every Sony HU I messed with in the upper-end of the price range.
I've heard this same shit so many times. So I always love when a kid like today brags to me that his sterio is soooo loud. And when I ask what he has he says he is running 1300 watts to a pair of Sony explodes. Now I know my 18 with 300 watts will stomp him so I just laugh and wait for him to ask me what I have. And it's always the same... They claim there's is louder.
Hey, everyone gets a bad unit once in a while, but my Sony ghostface unit (no idea what the model number was) that I got second-hand off another guy was my baby for a good 9 months before he asked for it back and I bought a Pioneer one that I got for like half price. My Sony CDX-C90 stayed in my 1996 thunderbird when I traded it in sometime in 2000. Right. It's just tonal shaping.for real though, "harsh" and "warm" are nothing but EQ differences that can be changed with processing.
