door deadening question

i'm going to be deadening my doors this weekend, and i'm getting the materials together now so i don't have any suprises. aside from using raamatt & ensolite, i'm going to cover the larger holes in the doors w/ some thin roofing metal. I will fasten the metal to the door and them raaamatt over that.

i've seen some people use an adhesive glue/silicone to keep the metal in place, and i've also heard of using some sheet metal screws, and also heard of people doing both. Are there any other methods to doing this? I would like to make it as easy as possible to remove these pieces in the future, so I was just wondering what other methods people have used. And to those who used screws, what length did you use? i'm worried that if i use too long of a screw, it will interfere w/ the raising/lowering of my window.

thanks in advance...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Get some self tapping tec screws, there like 1/8'' and shouldnt interfeer with anything. I didnt cover up the holes in my doors, I wish I could have, but there was a difference in height and many other things that stopped me.

Sandwich some deadener between the door metal and the roof sheeting, just to make sure there wont be any flex rattles.

I would use some foam between the sheet and the door to prevent rattles and to make a tight seal. The whole point of covering wholes is to attempt to seal the door, so while you're plugging holes you might as well go all out. You can get good cheap closed cell foam with adhesive on it (one or two sides) in all different profiles that is used for sealing windows. Should be at your local hardware store.

Then small sheet metal screws should be fine. Just drill a pilot hole and you're all set. Perfectly removeable. I wish I had had more time this weekend, I would have done this...

Shoot, I bet you could get some rubber seal stuff and run it around the edge of the holes too.. That would be sick.

yeah i bought some weather stripping to put between the metal sheet and the door skin.

I will try and take as many pictures as possible during the install, and maybe do a write up of all of it. This is the first deadening that i've attempted, but maybe some of it will be helpful to others.

wish me luck! i should be able to get all of it done on saturday since i plan on starting about 9am.

I put deadener on the back of the sheet metal, a bead of silicone around the edge where it seals to the door, and used a few 3/4" self tapping screws, then covered it with deadener.

Only thing that would make it tough to remove is the layers of deadener covering it.
