If you go out to a restraunt and get bad service do you tip your server? I'm wondering because I went out to eat and got pretty bad service like the waitress just really seemed like she didn't want to help us. I think she came by the table once to check up on us the entire time and it wasn't even busy. So when she brings the check I told my girlfriend I didn't want to tip her but she insisted I gave her a little something so I gave her $2. I really don't believe someone should receive a tip just for bringing me my food and doing nothing else lol. And I realize I messed up the title.

sure you tip your hat to 'em on the way out the door, but i think like steve buscemi (sp) on reservoir dogs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I ask for the manager and explain the situation.. they usually pull something off the bill so the server gets something and also the situation is clear to everyone.

I agree...depends on the person and how bad the service is though. If I can tell they're having a bad day sometimes I leave them a big tip, like $20 for a $20 meal. Idk I guess I hope it will make their day better for the next people. Some say "leave your emotions at the door when you get to work"...well idk about you but I know dammn well I've had those days when personal stuff at home has made me HATE being at work and I take it out on customers...or that one bittchy asss customer pisses you off and you don't want to help ANYone after that...?? I know other people have. And I know when a complete stranger goes out of their way to try and cheer me up (esp after treating them like shitt)...it makes me feel better afterwards. Meh idk...just sayin...

tip is already on the bill on your side, isn't it? gratuity?

here's the "norm rule" is 15% of the meal price before taxes. My gf, which is alway with me when eating at restaurant always give like 30% of the meal price, which is a lot when service sucks

Here a while back at Chili's we got terrible terrible service. The waitress came to get our drink orders 10 minutes after we sat down, and the place was dead at like 4pm.

Finally she brings our drinks which is just 2 glasses of Dr. Pepper and then says she'll be back in a few minutes to take our orders. I'm like no problem but I was a tad irritated.

Like 15 minutes goes by and she never comes back. I had to flag down another waitress to take our order. Then our original waitress walks in from outside where I could smell that she was smoking a cigarette...just stunk like hell.

Then shes like what can I get you and I said nothing, someone else is helping us.

She got mad by her expression and walked away.

The 2nd waitress was prompt, brought me re-fills without asking, napkins, just taking the best care of me as possible.

So when we were done, I left her $20 tip as the 1st waitress was about 5 feet away watching..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Fun timez..

in some places where you pay before you get yoru meal, like some buffet type places, they''ll ask me if i want to go ahead and pay my tip now. frankly i think thats BS but i always say "i havnt been served yet"

i usually get a funny look but f*** them, i base tips on my service cause thats the whole entire freaking point! some people act like its a requirement or something regardless, but if that was the case there wouldnt be a "tip" system to begin with. they would just make more on the hour.

as long as my drink is filled and i dont go thirsty, i'm pretty happy, if i go thirsty i'm not tipping crap cause theres just no excuse for that.

and someone mentioned about them having a "bad day". that too is just an excuse. a sorry one at that.

What more do you want if she brought you your food in a timely manner? I only don't tip if the service is REALLY bad, waitresses only get paid like $2 an hour. One time, my girl and I were at IHOP, it took 30 minutes for us to get our food, 3 people who arrived after us got their food before us, and we did not receive our drinks until 5 minutes after we got our food.

If you can keep my drink full (i'll drink 4-5 glasses of dr. pepper at a dinner) im pretty happy and i'll leave you 30-40% easy. If I do thirsty, I don't tip. Their job isn't that hard when it's dead.
