Do you tips bad waiters/waitresses?

how if I get 100 dollars in sales and get tipped 14% then I get taxed on the full amount.

if i get a 15% tip i only go up 1 dollar

which I then have to tip out the bartenders 1.5 % of my sales. Then I have to top the bussboys 2% of my sales then if theer is a food runner 1% of my sales. so there goes 5 bux right there. So i alrdy got taxed on the full amount 14 dollars. then gave away 5 of it. And walk away with 9 bux. And I got taxed on the whole thing

Im not personally complaining i enjoy my job. Some ppl just **** at tipping the majority are fine. Im not arguing or anything I honestly dont care. it usually evens out in the end. I get a shitty tip then I get a huge tip evens out I dont care. to be honest.

Because those people are doing nearly half of your job for you, that's why. They take out your food, they bus your tables, they make your drinks.... so you take the order and do refills and fetch the steak sauce, right?

Still complaining?

Dude, I've been there waiting tables, and there are a lot of people in that joint working just as hard or harder than you, and you make double to triple the money most of them make...

Oh im not complaining and trust me I tip them there fair share much more then the expect so they bust there ***** for me. Also if they need help doing anything I help them There is never a moment im just standing there.

seriously as a server I make between 60-120 a night depending on the night.
as a bartender I get paid 100-200 a night.

also rem on the whole 60 dollar steak think. the server personally pays taxes on that steak also since you get taxed on your tips ppl forget that
So if we dont tip you wont get taxed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I usually leave 15% and most upper restaurants include gratuity on the bill if you have a larger party but I will tip on top of that cause if a waiter/waitress can do a large party and remember all the food and drinks well mad props.

The number one complaint of restaurant diners is not the internal temperature of porterhouse, the crispness of fried calamari, or the martini's strength. Nor is it the soundtrack or banquettes color. It has nothing to do with food or décor. The top gripe among those who eat out is service.
As customers, how should we deal with poor service? (Hint: it has more to do with you than you think). Here are tips to dealing with that odd and mercurial species of restaurant employee known as The Server.

1. They're servers not servants. Smile. Be nice to them and they'll be nice to you. That's my number one tip for good service. You'd be amazed how terribly some customers treat servers. Anyone who has ever been a waiter or waitress (a job everyone should be forced to try at least once) knows how much a customers' attitude can dictate their overall dining experience. And if you've ever snapped your fingers, whistled, or yelled to get the attention of a waiter, shame on you.

2. Not everything that goes wrong in a restaurant is the servers' fault. Remember, they're just one cog in the wheel. The long wait for the food is most likely the kitchen's responsibility. Perhaps the host sat too many tables at once, which would explain why drinks are taking so long. So before you start mouthing off, remembers someone else may be to blame. Having said that, a good waiter will always apologize for delays and give you regular updates on the whereabouts of your food.

3. One way to avoid bad service is to eat at the bar, a favorite tactic of restaurant insiders. The server/bartender never leaves your sight, which makes it really hard for them to ignore you.

4. If you do get a waiter-from-heck there are a few courses to take. You can grin and bear it, take the abuse, and eventually show your displeasure where it hurts the server the most--the tip. (Some restaurants pool tips so just know your financial penalty might not have the effect you intend.) Another option is to pull the manager (or whoever looks like they are in charge) aside and let them know what's going on. Politely ask for another server. Management at any restaurant worth returning to will oblige. If they don't, leave and tell every person you know about the experience. No need to make a scene.

5. If all else fails, write the restaurant (or, more specifically, the owner) a letter explaining the situation. During a busy service even the best restaurants have a difficult time addressing specific problems and issues. If you really want to be heard and, with any luck, improve the future dining experiences of others, it's best to put pen to paper a few days after the incident when you've had a few days to reflect on the experience. If it's a restaurant that cares about its reputation, its employees, and its customers, you'll most definitely hear back from them.

I'm just trying to help put things in perspective for you... you're saying that 15% isn't enough of a tip, when you're making **** good money for the work you do. I know, I've done it, too. I begged and pleaded for time waiting tables when I was in the business, but I wasn't as "eye-candy" as the other waitstaff, so I was relegated to the grill, the dishwashing, the trash carrying and the mopping. I begged for more waiting tables, which I only got when they were desperately short-handed. Of course you could say this was because I was a poor waiter, but my tips certainly didn't reflect that, and I almost always had happy customers.

And as I said, many of us out here in the real world are taxed much more heavily than you, so please, when you think of 14% taxation, you should be grateful for being taxed so lightly. Seriously. I pay the gov't somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30% of my income, minimum. Lots of people pay more, and I'll soon be in that bracket. So I pay more so you can pay less.... this is as an absolute number and as a percentage.

I'm not sure how old you are, but my point is just that life gets a helluva lot more unfair as you go along, so good luck, and enjoy it while you can, mate!

oh dont worry i am enjoying it lol. I am 22 and I work 30 hrs a wk and go to school fulltime. Then during the summer I pick up a 40 hr job in the morning and I know what you mean trust me. I dont have money to play around with. It all goes to school and bills. Hopefulyl once school is over it will get easier with a better paying job and i dont mind doing bartending for xtra money either when i get older good for socializing and xtra cash on the side

My wife and I tip like so:

25% = Excellent

20% = Very Good

15% = Average

10% = Below Average

1% = Inexcusably Poor

Better put forth some effort and show you care about your job and how you do it.

15% is all i tip on average, never higher. 10% for shitty job and a really shitty job gets no tip. if you work as a server.....don't be pissed off at the customer for the tip they leave, be pissed off at your employer for the wage they pay you.

about the same here.....we keep an eye out for how many tables they are serving simultaneously, if they're really busy we won't short them on the tip if they are a little slow getting to us
