What size enclosure is your sub rated for?

It basically just makes your enclosure act like a bigger one.

You gain lowend response, but lose damping.

the general concensus seems to be if the box is big enough for the woofer you don't need it... but it can't hurt...

Damping increases the same as it would with a slightly larger enclosure.

yep, damping INCREASES, not decreases.

and, it will make it sound louder to your ear by lowering the f3 of the box.

speaking of polyfill, is it possible some of the stuff would get stuck onto the voicecoil of the sub and get burnt onto it?

Most likely No, i'd push the polyfill so that it fits secure against one of the sides preferably where the air will pass by. I put some polyfill in our home system (def tech 10" sub ~ 350 watts in a 1.25 cubic foot box tuned to 34hz I think) and it made it seem A LOT louder. Not going to put it in my snailshell though.

walmart has plenty in sewing section. dont press it in at all. just pull it apart in small handfuls, and throw it in until its about 3/4 of the way full.

Go to walmart and find the cheapest polyfill pillow they have and use the stuffing. I found one for about 2 dollars cents and it was more than enough.
