Do you guys know what the war on drugs is ?

Is Flip getting schooled on street economics? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Yes and No. I am arguing the perception issue that crack is cheap. It isn't that cheap. Compared to cocaine, yes. But as a daily habit, it is definitely not cheap. It isn't like you can buy an 10 grams for $10 or something.

nope. That's why most crackheads are out stealing shit to support their habit.

My experience with it is limited to dating or being friends with current/former users...I not very familiar with the production process, just the end user's reaction. And yes, I know of only one person who used crack who didn't eventually end up stealing. He got an allowance from my his mom, so not sure that counts.

Yeah it's really sad to see what people do to "get their fix" but not every user is the same. I know a coke head who buys about a ball a night .. he's a gay guy.. He's a hair stylist and pays for it with his tips. But dude goes to work everyday and goes and partys almost every night.

Yeah, but that shit is killing him on the inside. When my ex was strung out and moved back in with her parents to quit, she slept for a week.

It is a known and documented fact that the CIA invented/developed crack (oliver north was the head of this mission) to sell to ambitious African American groups in urban (black) neighborhoods all over the country. The CIA needed money to fund anti terrorism programs. The blacks got smart and learned how to make their own crack, they did not need Oliver North anymore. The black neighborhoods went to crap, they operated like third world nations. The few drug dealers made all the money while the rest of the people were starving and dieing from the drugs.
Enter Richard Nixon.

Nixon declared a "war on drugs". The American people believed this was a great thing, drugs kill....Nixon wants to lock up the drug dealers and drug addicts to make this nation a better place. This is 100% wrong. The government knew they screwed up with Oliver North. But the Gov is smart and they used it to their advantage. They put hefty laws on crack cocaine, the crack form carried a longer sentence then the powder form (the rich mans form). They started locking people up left and right which in turn created what we know today as these huge prisons. Which created TONS of jobs, all the way from police officers to probation officers to prison guards. They could not build prisons fast enough. The deadly substance now had its enemy, the "drug dealer". Yes i partially blame the drug dealers but then again i do not, they saw opportunity...they took it. This is a win, win for the government. It gave them the opportunity to attract voters and the opportunity to destroy the people that would other wise not vote for them (poor urban communities) all the while creating jobs and developing systems (prisons, half way houses, drug programs) to monitor and "cage" the less desirable areas of this country.

The government is terrified of what it cant control. People in the ghetto selling crack have no tax ID numbers, do not pay taxes, do not vote. People like you and me have jobs, we pay taxes, we vote. The government knows everything about us, we have a paper trail. So they need to somehow "control" these criminals, and they do so with prison etc. The government is beyond genius with the way they conduct the war on drugs.

are you on cracK?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Seriously terrifying drug, just look at Amy Whinehouse and how she use to look ok and then now she look like a 20year crack addict... in less than 2 years

So people who smoke crack were born with, or developed, this disease without ever making a conscious choice to use their drug of choice? What you are forgetting is that in fact it was a choice they made. They may not be able to undo that choice, but to give them a cop-out like that is just wrong. Everyone today knows what crack does to people. All you have to do is watch Tyrone Biggums or the 11 o'clock news. Before they choose to take that first hit, they knew what was at stake. Don't sugar coat it and say they had a disease before that first hit.
You sounded like an intelligent person until you started making excuses for addicts.

You don't sound intelligent by saying this. I don't know you, but these are not intelligent thoughts. If you can read, then do a little research before spouting off this nonsense. ASAM clearly defines alcoholism (our biggest problem by far) and drug addiction as diseases. Not choices. Why don't you do some work and research what definitions are provided by ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) for addiction and alcoholism? If you don't feel like doing that, then go into a drug and alcohol treatment facility and talk to a chemical dependency professional about why your expressed infatuation with "it was a choice they made" and that they "know what crack (or put in some other substance) does to people" are issues that in fact support a diagnosis of the disease.

Let's take the alcoholic, who is a much bigger problem for this country (alcoholics outnumber all drug addicts by many, many times). He or she knows that if they start drinking too much or too often, and it begins to interfere with, or change their life, that it could or would be alcoholism. They have the illusion that it won't happen to them and/or that whatever degree of problem that others see that this person has, the person themself continues to believe there is no problem. Some come to believe they have a problem. But they are unable to stop on their own.

If you feel that they need to "just stop", and you don't want them to get the help they need, you are the biggest reason why we have so many active alcoholics and addicts in this country. It is people like you who perpetuate an attitude of arrogance and intolerance that makes you the one who has their head in the sand, sort of like the Big Three automakers right now. Providing help for addiction instead of putting people down because you don't have a clue about their disorder is how you reduce demand for drugs and alcohol and reduce the use of drugs and alcohol, and thereby reduce crime. Pouring money down a rat hole like we are currently doing with the "War On Drugs" does only one thing: justify the existence of a lot of DEA, local drug enforcement officers, prosecutors and corrections officers. Nothing to solve the underlying demand for the stuff.

I have worked in the addiction field, I am a professional addiction counselor. I am also a lawyer. I am not stupid, I know this area very well. It would take way too long to school you in this area on this site, but suffice it to say your views are Cro Magnon era and way outdated by current knowledge. If you even knew 0.001% of what I know on this, you would not have made those comments above. What you believe was prevalent in the 1920's and 1930's, when they put people either in prison or an insane asylum for alcoholism or drug addiction.
