Do i need to go with 4 gauge or 8?

i am currently running 2 12 mtx terminators powered by a directed 600d. I am looking to upgrade a bit. i feel like the subs are underpowered. I am currently running 8 guage wire also. if i upgrade to an amp pushing out 800 watts or even 1000 watts do I need to rewire with 4 gauge wire?

Never cheap out on the size of wire your going to use. Always try to use the biggest wire possible.
