Do I need to charge my batteries before installing my alternator

I'm installing my new singer 320a alt tomorrow and I am wondering if I need to charge my batteries before running the alt. the front and the back battery is only at most 3 months old and both hold a 12.8 charge.

Id charge them whike installing on a slow charge just to bump them up

Are they supposed to be charged to 14.4 or 12.8? I know batteries sit at 12.8 but someone told me to charge them to 14.4 before putting them on the alt

They will only rest at 12.8-13.1 after a full charge with the car off u will only see 14.4 plus while charging or with the car on ..give them a full 2a slow charge
