Do i need to break them in, and if so, how?

this discussion is alot like the is there a break in time for cars. some say yes some say no.
my uncle has been a GM at a car dealership for many years and hes pretty set on you should drive a car like you would normally drive it right off the lot. he said most cars he sees with problems are the ones that were babied and then someone went out and really got on it when they thought it was broken in.

same with subs, ur gonna get a split answer. just saw a thread of a guy who got new subs and from the manufacturer they suggest a break in period so.....all depends on who you ask.
yea that was me and im going to slowly break them in there so damm stiff you cant move the cone. 2 15In HDC315

If anything, you flipped that around accidentally?
I understand xmax can't change and is an absolute limit, and I understand that the power ratings are basically never an absolute limit, because of how dynamic they are, but I think its reasonable to say that by essentially putting your sub in a sealed box that is significantly too small for it (limiting cone travel/heat dissipation similarly to the 'break-in' period) its probably not a good idea to give it its full rated power, when you know its not being able to move as much as it should be.

Also you still didn't explain 'heat saturation'
Heat saturation is the effect of heat build-up. For example, an SPL sub can take sometimes tens of thousands of watts for a short burp, but much less for continuous playing.

The pistonic motion of the cone/coil is merely one way a speaker coils itself. Again, if you are running your sub at so close to the limit of its thermal capacity that the small degrease in cone motion that a newer and stiffer suspension will offer will cause a thermal failure, playing the system at that level for any prolonged period of time, even with the 'broken-in' suspension, will undoubtedly lead to premature failure anyway.

so back on topic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

so heres the options

light use to break in

normal use to break them in

make em pound from the moment i power up

And again, who cares what your uncle says about breaking in a car? My Aunt Matilda breaks in here panties when she buys new ones, should I quote her also?
Im suggesting nobody cares what your uncle says about CARS, this thread is not about CARS. And you trying to interject CARS into this break-in discussion, just like people ALWAYS try to do (because everyone knows about breaking in a car's engine) is totally irrelevant.

BTW, most modern cars already have a break-in procedure at the factory these days. As if CARS has ANYTHING to do with this discussion. My Aunt Matilda's underwear is just as relevant.

Oh I read you right the first time smart guy, you aren't talking rocket science here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You are just too stubborn and weak willed to admit you presented a lousy comparison. I hope your fragile ego survives this.
ur still not getting it. i was making the comparison saying that it is like cars that some people say that you should break them in, and some dont. then i decided to share the story that he doesnt. simple as that.

u just decided to be a douchebag and argue something cause you are bored, much like you argue other things cause ur bored. i get it, u like to think ur superior, whatever. no sweat off my back.

Blah blah blah. You like to talk like Im trying to be superior here, when your initial reply just had to end with "read>you". Oh, and I'll try to figure out why it is IM the one here trying to argue, as you are calling me a douchebag. Do you know a hypocrite is? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Ive seen this discussion a thousand times now, and 900 of them have had someone mention a parallel to breaking in engines. Your initial reply, about your uncle's opinion on how an engine should be treated, could have easily been read as 'treat it like an engine'. But no, it makes much more sense Im just a bored douchebag with nothing better to do with my time than to pick on you, personally.

If I were to sink to your level, Id call you not just a retard, but a retard that even other retards look at and go wow, that dude is fvcking retarded. Luckily, Im above that.
