Do I need a new head unit??

I have an 02 Chevy Tahoe and have had the same system since I was 15. A 50 dollar power Acoustik PL-51b 300w 4CH head unit, old hand me down 600w 2 channel amp on the subs and old hand me down 600w 4 channel amp on the doors, Walmart coaxial door speakers, and 200 dollar pawn shop 150w rms kicker comp 12’s. I have some new deaf bonce apocalypse M61SE pro 6.5 midranges on the way for the doors and just bought a taramps smart5bass amp and 2 2500w rms sundown xv3 12’s in a tru spec box.

Now my question is should i be worried about my hunk of junk power acoustik head unit not being able to handle the new amp, subs, and door speakers? I don’t plan on upgrading the hand me down 600w 4 channel for the doors because the apocalypse mid ranges are 150w rms so the 600w 4CH amp is just the one I need for them.

If I do need to upgrade what suggestions does anyone have for a head unit that compliments my new setup power wise? I don’t care about touchscreen or CarPlay but I have heard a good head unit puts out high voltage and has good EQ systems. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Keep your current head unit, and replace it if you don't like your final setup. Your amps will receive your audio signal from the headunit and power your speakers. If you decide to upgrade your head unit, you may want to consider one of the modern head units with USB, Sirius Radio, Bluetooth, built-in equalizer, and a backup camera. I'm a big fan of JVC.

Ok thanks. Gonna get the new speakers, subs, and amp installed and see what happens then.

I also posted another thread about being on stock electrical with this new setup and whether I should be worried about needing to upgrade alternator, big 3, or power cell. Figured while I got you here maybe you could give me some insight on that.

Personally, I would hold off on the big three, unless I was buying an amplifier that had a huge amperage draw. I have 3 amps ( 520 watts, 480 watts, and 1200 watts) with a total maximum draw of 110 amps. I play my music normally, a little past halfway, and it is loud. My stock alternator puts out 135 amps, and it works fine. Even when I push the volume higher, there is no headlight dimming. You can always upgrade if you experience symptoms of needing to.

1. If your lights start to dim when music is playing, which will be most noticeable during songs with more bass.
2. If you’re noticing corrosion building up around your battery’s connection.
3. If your car has power windows that are moving more slowly than usual or any other powered features and accessories that don’t seem to be working correctly.

Just my novice opinion.
