i just got back from sdp (sound depot & performance) and got quoted to get my system installed (loc, 4g wires, and labor). and he tried telling me that i would absolutely need a cap.

i have a 2000 bonneville ssei (everything stock)

2 12" 05' type-r's

viper 1200d

2.2-2.3 ported box tuned to 32hz

my question to you all is do you think i need a cap, or a ho alt?

the guy at the shop said at night my headlights will dim everytime the sub hits, without the cap.

what do you all think?

i would just go ahead and get a HO alt, although your electrical system might be able to handle that setup. Try and see, if your electrical system cat hang with it, go ahead and get the alt.

Nice car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Get a cap and you'll be fine!

Only if it's a Alumapro Cap 15 though

From my experiences all caps do is open a door for another problem to occur and a waste of money. Get a new alternator and see if that helps (i had my stock alternator and it caught on fire. Once i got an aftermarket alternator i had no problems and im pushin 1500 watts)

I have a 1994 SSEi and my lights dim like crazy with the stock 140 alt and a 12" Type R. I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading to a HO alt from the Iraqqi group buy. Great choice of car. Check out http://www.bonnevilleclub.com and join. My dad just bought a 2000 SSEi himself. Beware of trunk leads and intermediate shaft problems.

btw, is that a 2.2-2.3 cubic foot box per chamber or net volume. Cause i would go between 2-2.5 PER sub. It will pound. trust me, i had that EXACT same setup, as that WAS my amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

thanks for the replies.

i guess i'll just run it off the stock electrical for now and see what it does, and if needed i'll get a ho alt.

bjfish yea its 2.3 per sub. i cant wait to hear this ***** beat down the block

ps

does anyone have extra viper1200d plug adapters willing to sell?

try it first and see, likely for that setup a capacitor won't be needed. A cap is not a substitute for the big 3, or a malfunctioning charging system. You likely won't even need the alternator- until yours dies (which those GM cars are famous for!) There are always a gob of people that say caps do nothing and are a waste of money- which is inaccurate, but they are not a cure-all for dimming headlights.

but caps are a waste of money and are a band-aid fix. all they do is add one more thing for your stock electrical system to charge up. get a HO alt, do the big 3, new battery and you'll be fine.
