dissapointed in output(2 idmax ported)

just installed 2 idmax 12s in my new box. box is ported and 1.8 net per sub. ID recomends 2 cube gross, which minus the .12 for displacement is almost perfect. tihs is for the small ported recomendation which i wanted bc i am switching from sealed for the last several years back to ported and listen to alot of rock.

amp used is ED nine.1 at 2 ohms so it is putting out rougly 900 watts. which is the same power i had going to one idmax when it was in a single sealed box. subs are dual 2 ohm. i have them wired with + from one coil to the - on the second coil on eachsub. and then the remainding +'s hooked together and to the amp and same with the -. this hsould give me a 2 ohm load right?

well anyway the one idmax sealed with 900 watts seems louder and more actuall bass output than having btoh installed and ported. whats the deal?

also went from running amp at 1 ohm to 2 ohm and my lights are dimming a considerable amount more. any ideas on that?

You need at least 650+ watts per IdMax, they just aren't going to work well with the 450 you say you are giving them now.

sounds like your subs are D2. if so, then yes, that would be a 2 ohm final load.

900w seems to be quite less for a pair of iDmax's. I also think that your box is a little too small. I suggest you go w/ a bigger box. I currently have mine in a 2.7 cubes @ 29hz and it's plenty loud for me. I also have ~700w going to my 12" idmax, though.

yeah i realize im underpowering them quite a bit but i was under the understanding that keeping your same power and doubling the woofer cone was in theory goign to add 3 db. plus moving from small sealed to ported i would have thought would have been more significant. i guess ill just hold out for another month or so til i deploy and sell my amp and get a bigger one

try just running 1 sub in the ported box (assuming u have 2 chambers). also whats the box tuning, did u build it yourself? port size?

I was feeding a single idmax 900 watts and it was great.

if ur lights are dimming more now maybe ur actually at a lower impedance than you think. maybe u are running at .5 ohm. if ur saying it' dimming more now than when it was wired at 1 ohm. not sure why it would be quieter though. doesn't make sense unless they are also out of phase maybe.

californiaboy....i wish. but i dont have the money right now and im about to leave for iraq inteh next couple ofmonths so im not real interested in spending money on car audio right now.

phyphoestellic...no its common chamber box. i bought it from another member on here. box is tuned to 32 hz. the dimensions are 30x23x15 and port is 2.5x12deep and 21in long.

tcguy85....good point. but if i was running at lower ohm than i thought i would hope i would be getting sufficient power. i did think they might be out of phase bc when i first saw them playing fast beats they looked like they were playing opposoite of each other. but then i put on some rap so it was more slwoer beats and i could get a better look at the subs moving and they are moving in sequence.

i would imagine 2 of anything ported would be louder than 1 of the same woofer sealed. even if the same power was split between 2 subs. the tuning and box size sounds ok. bigger might help but idk thats the problem.

yeah thats what im thinking.

only other thing is one of the subs is double stacked and the other is triple stacked, but i called ID when i first realized this and sent them pics. eric confirmed theyre both v3's.

Them MAX's need more power... put 900 watts RMS on each one.

My old MAX was quite loud with 900 watts also, but then again I'm not a total bass fiend like some of you guys.

i talked to ID earlier and they seemed to think, as do i, that 2 max's ported should be alot louder than 1 sealed. i checked the ohmload at the speaker wire where it goes into the amp and its 1.8 so my wiring is good.

tomorow im going to bypass the speaker cups and direct connect all wiring. hopefully that helps some.

sounds like you should have gotten dual 4 ohm and wired them down to 1 ohm. Maybe you can trade them or exchange them for dual 4's
