Dirtbike Riders I need your opinions...

I mean last I checked the Honda shops don't carry parts for bikes that were made in the 80's.
I don't know about dirtbikes, but I was looking at early to mid '70s Honda SOHC fours this year, and a lot of the common parts (carb rebuild kits, fork seals, electrics, etc) were still available direct from Honda. '87 isn't that old, considering, but I agree that if it hasn't been maintained, pass on it.

haha it's all good dude, I'm a ***** when it comes to street bikes.
Man from what your telling me it seems like this would be a good bike for you to just put around on if that's all you want it to be. I guarantee you though you'll be wanting more eventually;)

If you really feel like getting it then do it, just be sure to do the work I told you about and it'll last much longer than just running it into the ground.
I'll post back in a day or so and let ya know if I get it and how much I paid lol.

Yea that's the first thing I am gonna do, plug, filters, clean the carb and all that good stuff. Thanks for your input too man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

FYI spark plugs aren't really a big deal on 4-strokes. It's mainly about keeping the oil fresh and monitoring the airbox. I doubt you'll be riding it very hard so I'll refrain from the laundry list of things I have to do....*sigh*

Good luck!

Just save up a little more money and get a 8-9 year old two stroke. What exactly are you trying to do with the bike/where are you riding it?

You'll have alot more fun on something on an older yz125. Not to mention the relative easy maintenance of them...

And yes, I ride. CRF450 =)

I was gonna ride it a mont or two for fun then try to make a little money off of it.

screw that they all got slowed down like the late model banshee's due to the emissions if your going for a late model its gotta be a 4stroke at least 400ccs. or if this kid could find one go get an old trx250r trike those things are insane to say the least

Do you even know anything about dirt bikes? Cause if you did, you'd know that four strokes have much more complex engines and are more effected by emissions, if anything. Think about where spark arrestors are needed most...four strokes.

And honestly, unless you're racing the difference between say a 250 two stroke and 450 four stroke is almost negligent. Yes, there is a difference. Before I got my crf450 I was riding a yz250. For a beginning rider, there is no way he'd be able to ride either of these bikes to their potential.

The main point here would be budget- a four stroke top end rebuild is going to cost you upwards of 2k, while a two stroke rebuild can be under a grand. Big difference.

I'm telling you, just go find a used 8-9 year old 125 (rm125, yz125 would be my rec's). You can probably get them under a grand, and they're a blast to ride.
