Did 2ohm Sub Make This Fosgate Blow?

If the ohm load on the amp was 2 and he then bridged the amp the amp sees a 1 ohm load.

No each channel of the bridged amp sees 1ohm. The amp sees 2ohms. BIG difference. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well, Yota came in and cleaned up for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Yota is correct, and Darth is either confused or very poor at relaying his thoughts into words.

If you have a 2ohm load, the amp (AS A WHOLE) will "see" a 2ohm load.

However, if you are bridging a 2-channel amplifier into that 2ohm load, each channel will "see" a 1ohm load...but the amplifier is still powering a 2ohm load, and still "seeing" a 2ohm load as an amplifier.

So, in this case....the amplifier was powering a 2ohm bridged load. Each channel "saw" a 1ohm load, but the amplifier as a whole was still powering (and "seeing") a 2ohm load.

Ok here's the Sub Amp Details:

Rockford Fosgate Punch 1500W Bridgeable 2-Channel MOSFET Amplifier with Selectable Bass Boost

Model: P5002

Punch it with 2 channels of clean MOSFET power, coming at you with a continuous 500-watt flow when bridged. For the songs that require some extra bass boom, just grab the remote.

Max power watts per channel: 1500W @ 2 ohms

500W RMS (continuous) x 1 @ 4 ohms, bridged

250W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 2 ohms

125W RMS (continuous) x 2 @ 4 ohms

now to throw in some confusion!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You could very well run that amp at 1ohm mono if you wanted to but for burps only....

Sometimes they can endure 2ohm mono for music (my 2300x's did) due to inbox impeadance rise generated by back emf. However doing so severely stresses an amplifier so try at your own risk! hehe

The number i have in my signature was done with my Mtx 2300x bridged at 1ohm... with music in the same box i have now.

The fuses only lasted like 30seconds.

And they can be ran at 2ohm mono... but i don't recommend it
