sublime why not just go for an inbetween? maybe 6.5 cubes?
again i have no experience with a sub like this so im just throwing it out there.
a couple people have actually said that..

but then again the guy who said he had the same setup, 7 odd cubes, he moved down to 4 or 5 or whatever, he kept 90% of the real low end but also gained some of the higher end.

i dont want to be midbass-less, so i think i'm going to stick with 5. the current design i have is ~5.35 cubes after displacement

and also... i know i have to upgrade my front stage... i know i know i know!! i just havent decided on what, as i have no experience what-so-ever in that area, for my car (05 trailblazer ls)

You can do what I did. Built the big box, was unhappy, measured out a bunch of 2x4's, calculated the volume they would take up, put em in the box. I got it to around 4 cubes, and decided to just cut the top off, and make a new baffle. Too easy.

And trust me, you will actually hear 18hertz with that thing.

hmm well after hearing about that other guy i would think 5 cubes would work then. maybe there is a reason RE recomends 4 cubes as optimal for a sealed enclosure for the 06 18" xxx //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well i called RE about this same issue and their response was...

4 is optimal, and do NOT go higher than 5.5 because then i will actually lose sound quality, and it will sound very very muddy.

but then a lot of people countered after they looked into the t/s specs, saying re doesnt know what they're talking about. which is a possibility, since the guys i talked to build the speakers, but didn't design them.

I nailed them together, then threw em in. Also if re says 4 cubes is optimal, you may want to actually look at 3-4 cubes as well. BTW my 18 gets alot of compliments on how controlled and smooth it sounds, yet how much disgusting low end it puts out. I really need to hit a tl, and see what it does @25 hertz. I did hit 138.5 on my last comp, right around 35 hertz.

i would try to get a hold of Scott from fi. i believe he had his hand in designing the 06 xxx's. he might have an idea of what that sub is suppose to like.

yeah thats what i heard...

well...as of now, 5.35 cubes sealed!

droppin off the design n deposit tomor..

my 12's wang like a muhh****a on 1,500-1,600 watts... all the power i got as of now...

i cant imagine what this sub will sound like in a sealed box in an suv on 1,600... even though it could prob eat 3,200 and still eat it like candy

LOL @ RE not knowing what they talkin about with their own gear!!!
their stuff is very very good quality, it's just that now that they've grown so much... this kinda stuff happens... people leave, people come and it's never like it used to be....

i can tell you this much...i will pound this 18 until i sell it or it dies, and i will NEVER spend that much on a sub - EVER again. not worth it.

I ust have to stop and lol @ the $1k sub and stock speakers....that is all.

Oh, and 5 cubes FTW.
not made of money.

toss me a couple hundred and i'll get new speakers.

or, quit being a smartass and give me some recommendations //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd go with 8 cubic feet. It gives you an overall q of about .9, which is usually as high as I'd ever want to go for a sealed subwoofer, especially if you want "feel you coming bass". Anyone who said that 8 cubes seems too big can't read t/s specs or use a modeling program, fully hearsay arguements. 5 cubes will be a bit more balanced in terms of lowend response, but that's not really your goal anyway. Also if you don't have alot of power a bigger box will work better.

PS.LMAO at stock speakers..
