Decision time with sealed box: 5+cubes or 8+cubes

have had many threads about this, back and forth on what i should do.

the conclusions to those threads were: DONT go with 8 cubes and GO with 8 cubes.

I wanted sound quality out of my 18" XXX, so the majority of people said go sealed because on top of that, it will have more of a "pound" but won't get as loud as a ported.

SO, being said, i have designs for both 5 cubes and 8 cubes thanks to immacomputer
anyway, i am dropping off the plans tomorrow probably, but it's decision time - 5 cubes or 8 cubes.

the main difference is the low end.. the larger box will apparently wang a lot harder on the lower freq's, while the 5 cube won't go AS low, but will hit the higher freq's a -little- better than the larger box.

SO, what would you do in my situation if you had to go sealed (ignoring ported all together) vote and post your response

but what people have said is that 8vs5, you'll have a much much much better low end response which will give me the "earthshaking" sound im going for.. or can 5 cubes do that also?

8 cubes would be retartedly ridiculous. Go with 5.

either way your building a big box but I would go with 5 cubes 8 would probably sound more like a ported box just minus the output, 5 will give you the quality your looking for, and I'm sure enough output if your running a 18" sub with its recommended power

What is the Qtc alignment for either choice?

I'm a fan of very low Qtc alignments, but I also like subwoofers crossed over very low...40Hz-ish...

Sealed boxes also lose power handling, and 8 cubes is retarded for a sealed box. If you must go sealed, go with 5 cubes.

ported's are also very peaky, and thats the last thing i want. sealed's apparently have a much better frequency response through all the frequencies than ported's do.

i dont care to get super loud, but most people have said previously sealed will have better SQ, respond better on the lower freq's and shake the shit out of things too..

not 'shake' as in get loud and just rattle stuff.

i've used both ported and sealed, on many different occasions, in many different vehicles. I reccomend ported. To have an XXX in a sealed is just an insult to the sub

you guys really have to read the other thread then.

this sub is NOTHING like the 05 and back xxx's. it doesnt react the same way and almost everyone with knowledge on how to use t/s specs to get an idea of what enclosure is best says to seal the 06 and up xxx's.

i was arguing for a while that i see no point in sealing an xxx either (at least for my tastes) especially since ive had experience with the 05's. but many of the more respected guys said the t/s parameters BEG for a sealed enclosure and i would take their word over mine when it comes to an unfamiliar sub, so i did.
