I'd go with 8 cubic feet. It gives you an overall q of about .9, which is usually as high as I'd ever want to go for a sealed subwoofer, especially if you want "feel you coming bass". Anyone who said that 8 cubes seems too big can't read t/s specs or use a modeling program, fully hearsay arguements. 5 cubes will be a bit more balanced in terms of lowend response, but that's not really your goal anyway. Also if you don't have alot of power a bigger box will work better.
PS.LMAO at stock speakers..
If 8 cubic feet gives a Qtc of 0.9, going smaller would increase the Qtc, yes? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

well i called RE about this same issue and their response was...
4 is optimal, and do NOT go higher than 5.5 because then i will actually lose sound quality, and it will sound very very muddy.

but then a lot of people countered after they looked into the t/s specs, saying re doesnt know what they're talking about. which is a possibility, since the guys i talked to build the speakers, but didn't design them.
like i said, go ported or it's going to sound like crap with 8 cubes sealed

i hear you on that aspect, but tell me.. how much low end loss will i lose going from 8 to 5? will i still have the "feel you coming" effect with 5, but it just wont be as loud or deep as an 8?

like i was saying, i dont have any midbass/components at the moment so losing all other frequencies except SUPER low end isnt really an option. i want to rumble, and go really low, but both the 5 and 8 can do this..correct? and is it correct that the 8 will just go a tad bit lower than the 5?

basically what i'm looking for in a list:

- good frequency response (porteds are tuned, so are more peaky but get louder)

- rumble effect due to low frequencies rather than shaking effect due to high volume

- still have some response on higher freq's, such as in songs (for example, rock songs, hip hop songs with higher freqs, etc)

anyone can have LOUD bass. i like it loud, but at the same time not everbody has that "jesus what is that?" effect. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

No matter what you decide, you are the one who has to listen to it. If I were you, I would go buy 2 sheets of mdf(50-60bucks), build a simple square/rectangular box that will fit in your vehicle, and start at 8 cubes. If you want, try to fill it with wood to get to 6, then 4 cubes. You make the decision based on your ears, not other peoples opinions. Remember this is your sub, your system. There is no way in hell that I would put that sub in without the mids/highs to support it, but like I said it's yours.

oh i definately plan on puttin in a nice front stage, but like i said, i dont always have hundreds of extra dollars to dump into my car. bills come first.

and i get what you're saying... but i know its up to me in the end, i would just like some direction from people with experience to guide me and say well for the sound you want, go this path..

i love how i mentioned ported was NOT an option, and people still responded with "PORTED TUNE LOW"

The only way that you will truly know, is by experimentation, just like most of the rest of us. There are guys who will build 10 boxes until they find the right one. Just experiment with it. build the big box, play with filling it. Hell, if you dont like the sound of it sealed, it will be big enough that you can toss a port in it. You might even learn something along the way, and improve your box building skills. If you have a shop build it, you will be screwing yourself, because you will only have the one enclosure built prolly @ 4 ish cubes, and will not know what 6 or 8 sounds like. Not to mention that youll pay an assload of money. They see you coming with that RE, they'll think your made of money. Same thing when a corvette owner rolls into a mechanic shop.

Good luck
