again, back that up with evidence because a LOT of people disagree with you.
lol im not gonna sit here and play grab *** with you. i gave you a reccomendation, if you dont like it, then dont take my advice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I bought an Ascnedant Audio 18 a few months back. Although it is nothing like the xxx 18, it is still a sub that begs for a sealed box. The enclosure range was 4-8 sealed, so I started with 7.5. Was a window flexing, low end beast!!. However it didnt do very good at the upper sub(50 on up) range. Went to 4 sealed and kept 90ish percent of that low end, still flexes the whole car like mad, and gained some of that upper range back(I'm a rock and roller). I would recommend that if you listen to a wide variety, as I do, go 5 cubes. If you love that rap, go 8. But make sure that you midbass will keep up with it, I had to switch from Alpine type x 6.5's to diamond d971(7 inch), to keep up with the sub.

Good luck

you guys really have to read the other thread then.
this sub is NOTHING like the 05 and back xxx's. it doesnt react the same way and almost everyone with knowledge on how to use t/s specs to get an idea of what enclosure is best says to seal the 06 and up xxx's.

i was arguing for a while that i see no point in sealing an xxx either (at least for my tastes) especially since ive had experience with the 05's. but many of the more respected guys said the t/s parameters BEG for a sealed enclosure and i would take their word over mine when it comes to an unfamiliar sub, so i did.
exactly... 2 or 3 very very intelligent people with knowledge of the t/s parameters have said that... thats why i took their recommendation to go sealed..

plus, ported is louder, but peaky. i want a better frequency response..

i feel you on that part. i am a rap / bass lover, and i would love to have both 5/8 for different occasions, but i can only choose one... i have designs for both, but one thing i HATE is having a super super low end monster, but when i throw on some system of a down... theres no bass. at all. i dont have extra cash for components or even an amp for them, so 5cu is calling my name.. i want the LOW end, but i dont want to sacrifice all my higher end bass JUST for the low end you know? midbass will be req no matter what with an 18, thats my next step, but until then i dont want to lose all bass in any other music than rap :\

the only real spec i know of is EBP which is calculated FS/QES.

50-90 = both should work well

>90 = ported box

the 06 xxx has an EBP of 22.9. compare it to a Q which is around mid 40's and a btl which is in the 120's i believe. as you can see, peoples recomendations seem to match the EBP equation. im sure thats not the only t/s parameter thats important, im just saying this is what i have seen from very knowledgeable people, on how to decide what type of box to use.

That's useful in some cases, not in others...try entering the Fi BTL's parameters in there, you'll get what looks like a small, sealed enclosure driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

What is the absolute minimum sealed size? If you listen to System and anything similar alot, I would go with absolute minimum. BTW, u gonna run that sub, with the power it requires, and keep the stock front end???? You will hear nothing but bass. It will sound like poopoo. I would upgrade the front end first, since I see by your sig that you already have some bass.

who are you talking to jim j? me or someone else?

you aren't going to have super loud lows with your big sealed box. it might get low but defiantly not loud. it will sound like trash. but if your talking about 'feeling you coming' then go like 8-10cubes ported @ 32hz

i get 156. wouldnt that suggest a ported enclosure?

i thought anything above 90 was considered a ported only application. im always willing to learn JimJ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

you obviously haven't heard an 07 xxx in action regardless of enclosure.

read what ignoreme said.
