Debadging a car

am i risking lower re-sale value by removing some emblems from my vehicle? anybody done this type of work on their own cars? tips and hints will be appreciated.

Did you consider using plastidip on the emblems first to see how that looks? IMO, blacked out emblems look better than no emblems.

kangaroux makes me happy because he knows about plasti-dip. lol spray it on the badges and use a toothpick to cut the excess off of the paint. you can spray it all over your paint and it wont hurt. just peels off. I use it behind my rear tires to keep tire rubber from scuffing paint during burnouts as well.

You wont lower resale value though. I debadged most of my stuff. Did my girls old mini cooper S before she traded it in and there were no problems. she now has a 11 GT500 though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you are going to do it, get 2 sticks and some fishing line. Wrap the line around the sticks and use them as handles and see saw your way through the glue. Then get a good cleaner like goo gone to get rid of the residue. Clean with windex or something that will remove greasy streaks.

Plasti dip is only about 6 bucks a can as well and you can get it at lowes and home depot.

be careful with your removers though as some of them are very harsh on paint and gloss coats. I've seen guys use goof off and it strips clear coat so they have big smudges where their badges used to be.

Any of the adhesive removers will take off clear coat too. If you do it heat the adhesive and try to rub it off by hand. I normally will use alcohol after that sinceto it won't hurt the paint. Also keep in mind if the car has some age on it, the paint may have faded around it and you'll be able to see where the emblem was.

This is how I did mine. I'd recommend using a heat gun or hair dryer to heat the adhesive a bit first. Heat>saw>heat>saw. If you heat it up just right, the badge will practically pop off and most adhesive will still be stuck to it. Overheat and the adhesive gets mushy and it becomes a PITA to clean up.
