Deadning the WRX

Got bored and ran to home depot to pick up some sounds insulation.

Was looking for peel and seal but all they had was this stuff called protecto wrap.

Looked decent enough and for $17 for a 6" x 50ft roll i figured might as well give it a try.

With 1 roll i was able to do the whole floor and spare tire well of my trunk along with the inside and outside of my trunk lid and 1 wheel well. The second roll i did the other wheel well and underneath my back seat and still have around 30ft left.

Only have 1 pic of the protecto wrap, but ill get more.

Then i ran to another home depot out by my aunts house and they had stuff similar to peel and seal.

Butyl rubber with aluminum backing. $15 for a 6" x 25ft roll so i gave it a shot.

Almost completely gutted the interior of my car.

With 1 roll i was able to do 75% of the floor in the cabin.

Pics from start to halfway through.

Feckin pics won't show! silly work filter.
Not at all worried about smell? dunno if that's an issue with what you used...
Nope, no smell at all. That is the main thing i was worried about too, but after baking in the sun this morning i still dont smell anything.

That's good. I haven't deadened my car because of a combination of laziness and worriedness about weight. this stuff heavy?
the 6"x50ft roll of protecto wrap weighs maybe 5 lbs.

the 6" x 25ft peel and seal weighs about the same.

any noticeable difference yet?
It is quieter with no interior and just the deadning than when i had full interior and no deadning at all.

Once i finish up a few more patches and put everything back together it should be a pretty big difference.

watch out for the haters, they'll be here once they get wind of this thread. I can vouch for you though because i've used edead, fatmat, dynamat xtreme, second skin, protecto wrap, and quick roof they all work to some effect if done properly.

The quick roof does kinda smell a little its not super strong but I did the roof of my s10 w/ it and it smelled like rubber for 2 days. You should try to go to the plumbing section and get that frost king duct insulation. The one with foam/foil not fiberglass. I had success using that to cut the noise from my transmission shifting when I layed it on the ****** tunnel.

Again the haters will come for you but another thing I suggest is to go to Jo-Ann fabric if you have any locally and grab some neoprene $20/yd. (look in a sunday paper or online for 40% off coupons) and throw some of that underneath your carpet and seats for a cheap decoupler. Most of the people are gonna say get ensolite or whatever but it doesn't matter.
