Deadening question.

Yeah I get a lot of road noise too. Deadening could turn into week long process in itself the way I have it pictured in my mind. I want to rip everything out and do it right to dampen the road noise. I want to recarpet the floor as well. Since I have some of your attention I was thinking I could get away with some carpet from Home Depot or some place like that. Only difference I see in the Home depot stuff is it's softer. Anybody ever try it?
I will most definitely Do a build log when I do. Right now I'm still gathering materials. I've been riding around with no music for like close to a month. you start hearing everything wrong with your car when you do.

Yeah, you never like what you hear when it's quiet. Whether you're in your car, or at home. LOL.

I would think the cheap carpet would wear through to soon. I wouldn't want to go through all that work to re-do the whole car, only to have to do it again in a month.

I mean not too cheap like that college dorm stuff, but maybe the best they have that's stain resistant and matches the color in there now. I got quoted a price of 450 and I guess most of that was labor. Chicago gets a lot of snow as you know, I just want something that can stand up to that.

Makes sense. Let me know what you find, and how it works out. I'm sure I will be doing this to one of my projects in the future, and could use your insight.

If you want to reduce road noise, the firewal and will make a difference. Thing is, it may be tough because with my Accord I would have to pull out the engine, and I'm sure that will be the same for most other vehicles. Or if you can do the firewall from the cabin side, that will help.

What REALLY helped reduce road noise was deadener on the wheel wells and fender. I only used 3 layers of Spectrum and 1 Layer of sludge for the front and 2 or 3 layers of Spectrum for the rear. I wish I would have done a layer or two of Damplifier on the fender.

Doing the wheel wells made a HUGE difference. If you want to take it a step further you can deaden the floor of the vehicle. Wanna take it even further than that? Use luxury liner.

Edit: James Bang used some material from carpet, that yellowish looking stuff for part of his floor. It's the same concept as the Luxury Liner, but probably much more easier on your pockets.

By the way, I didn't do all my deadening all at once. I spread it out because originally it was just the doors, then the trunk, then the rear deck, then I started going crazy with it. I probably put around $600 worth of deadener and it was much well worth it. If you find any small cracks or tough to get places to get to, like pillars, expanding foam is a charm. I used Big Gap Filler. Wal Mart has it and it's cheaper than home depot.

Those doors look a little rough, but you will be surprised how well you can maneuver once you say "screw it" and just dive in. Just use pieces small enough to handle easily. If you go with a liquid or a paste, make sure you don't slop it into the drains at the bottom of the door. Is that the generation of that car that has the battery in the fender?

It is.

Seems like I'll hold off on the doors and just do the trunk and rear speaker area. Since it is still warm, I'm gonna do spray on for the inner part and mat the outer.

For some reason, I think I'm biting off more than I can chew......lol. I don't mind though. Once it's done, it'll hopefully sound better.
