dead sub?

i have a kenwood 400watt rms 12 that doesnt work at all. i dont think tht it is blown becuase the cone moves freely. when i connect it to my amp the amp goes into protection mode. it is not the amp becuase the twin sub works as well and the dead sub would not work on my friends amp either.

A blown speaker could easily behave this way. Get a DMM and test the coils or simply test them with a small flashlight battery (get some wire and touch the + and - of the speaker terminal to the + and - of a AA, C, D, or 9V battery) If the sub pops out a little it's probably good and you're wiring it wrong, if it doesn't move it's hosed.

its not the wiring becuase i wired it the same way as my other sub and checked it multiple time. i will try the batterie test though. thanks for the help

the test seems to work the sub moves and makes a littile noise but i still cant figure out why my amp doesnt wanna play its a single voice coil 4ohm sub and i was gonna bridge channel 3 and 4 on my amp like i did one and two for the other sub so i dont get why it wont work.
