Dead box?

I purchased a JVC KD-G720 head unit and box last year in december. Today while out driving I think the box overheated. I have a noisy engine so the volume is always cranked to about 27-30. Now for some reason when I push it to that point the stereo shuts itself down and restarts along with the speakers. Meaning it flashes like it has no power then comes back on. I checked the ground wires and its perfectly grounded. When I play the stereo at a lower volume it works fine, but as soon as I push it to the normal volume where I can acutally hear it, it cuts out. I think the acutal box may be bad not necessarily the head-unit. Is there anyway for me to purchase the box and not the head unit? or can someone tell me what the issue is? Im a computer guy not a car guy.

go to a shop tell the "here is my credit card please fix my radio".

Yea, your box can't really go bad...i would have someone check over your headunit and wiring and stuff

sound like the deck is cutting out cuz of low voltage..

test ur voltage wit a dmm

I believe by "box" he means the actual deck, not just the face plate.

Well I tried to start my car this morning and the battery is dead. Could that mean the reason the power was cutting in and out was because the battery was low/on its way out. And yes i guess i mean deck, like i said i know nothing of this stuff. I've been posting on another fourm as well. A guy over there said it might be a blown speaker and that the head unit is shutting off in order to protect itself. Anyone know how to diagnose a blown speaker? I mean the volume works up to a certain point.....

get a new battery

take care of your bat. first. maybe your alt if the battery is to new to be bad. then see if the problem continues. low voltage can do strange things.

edit. after re-reading your post, i see you were driving when this started. did u have your headlights on too? notice any dimming of lights?

honestly yes I did notice the headlights are dim. Of course this was on the way home last night before i found the battery dead this morning.

high output alternator...it charges your battery

Would it be better to just buy a new battery at this point or is the alternator really worth it?
