DD 9518g vs. 18" BTL fully loaded

This is a stupid question, thats probably why there is no answers at the beginning.

I have owned Mts as well as dd's. All I had was the 9515's and I would much rather have a DD. That was not even a 99, a friend of mine had a 9917 off of just 2krms and it SLAMMED, quite a bit harder than my 95.

I have only had a single 9515 at a time, when I had an MT it was two of them, granted the box was not as big as it should have been but my boxes with the DD's that I have were not as big as they should be either..

A 99 should OWN a btl, if not 2.

Didnt read topic real good, I thought you were talking about 99's.. But like I said the with the 95s and Mt's that I had, I would deff go with 95's.

May be nice being able to choose options but what are you going to really choose? Fully loaded, of course... I have also heard that the 9515 is not just an spl speaker, that if you want to you can get them sounding pretty good. In my experiences I have only shot toward spl so I couldnt tell you,

noob you better hurry up...we got boxes to build =P

Still going with the wall?

I still say do something with interchangeable ports too... >=D

nick has said the BTL was not designed as a pure spl driver. he said it was designed at a daily woofer that you can beat on, especially once you start adding the options to it. to me it seems like this driver would fit the role just fine.
So far as I know, Nick didn't design the btl, Scott Atwell did. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Clearly, the btl is fi's SPL sub. Im sure the coil gap was designed accordingly, etc. Yes you can add options to change its config somewhat, but imo just buying a sub that was designed from the ground up as a daily SQL sub would be a better choice. Maybe Im wrong, at some point it boils down to opinion, but thats how I see it.

Cheers.

i just bought a BTL in the classifieds. i know it sure as hell wont sound like my mag did (either of them), but i guess ill have to wait and see what it does sound like lol. i too always thought the BTL is the spl sub. but then i read some other stuff from nick saying otherwise. and i trust nick more than just a random 16 yr old kid who is regurgitating info, which makes it hard to form an opinion without using the driver yourself. i guess ill just have to wait and see lol

just needed to clarify that the kid comments are not intended at you. i reread my post and it sounds like it is, but just trust me on this one lol

yea i found a deal for $335 shipped. he posted it up, and i bought within a few minutes lol.

now i see the tc sounds thread and am thinking of getting some motors for fun.

my guess on the BTL will be 75/25 spl to sq split. like audioholic said, i will bet its a pretty peaky driver. will keep you updated for sure.

cool cool. i know the DD will be able to, in most cases, put up higher numbers. but the BTL seems in most scenarios, a daily driver sub over the 95 being a DD sub. im not saying the best DD sub ever, but better than the comparison in my question.

A lot of people really love the BTL because of the fact you can choose options to make it either a pure SPL speaker or a daily beater. I think the BTL is a more rounded woofer. I also prefer a sub I can tune to really slam the lows, as in around 32hz. This is one reason I wouldnt personally choose a 9515. I really wouldnt like a box tuned to 40hz. Again this is just my .02
