DD 9518g vs. 18" BTL fully loaded

which can handle more daily in the right enclosure?
Not to be insulting, but why would this affect your decision? You realize both these subs primary design intent was for burping right? I just dont see why you are looking at these two subs, then trying so hard to squeeze everything you can out of them, 'daily'. IMO, a sub with more linear displacement potential and notoriety for linear frequency response would be a better choice for a 'almost always a DD but sometimes a comp' type of system.
I also fail to see why which one will 'take more power' means much, especially given you are asking about long term and continuous use. Why not ask about efficiency? Are you interested in being loud, or just absorbing watts for bragging rights?

Your question is like asking which would take more power for a burp, an IDQ or a Velodyne.

I can check, but not like it matters.

Both subs look like teh secks.

So does the 5400, but not the price ://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

The 5400 would be a much better choice for a 'daily' system, imo. But yeah, the price means it almost might as well not exist.

Do you know what the x-max is on the DD 9500? FI rates by overhang... by that method DD has right around... zero x-max (seriously). The coil is extremely short, almost or exactly the same height as the top plate... it's either even-hung or very close to it. All of the cooling DD uses keeps that tiny voice coil from exploding //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

By the 70% BL method, IIRC, the 9500 motor has about 13mm of x-max or so.

Despite all that, the 9500 still does quite well daily with lots of power, again, thanks to it's cooling and large motor. So does the BTL, though, so it's up to your preferences I'd say.

Doing 'well' daily is a subjective notion. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif To me, these types of subs are seen as doing well because they dont fall completely on their face while performing outside their designed intentions. Ive heard 9500 and MT setups that sounded ... okay. Ive yet to hear one that sounded outstanding. Usually rather peaky response, even in their 'daily' box. But oh yes, the owners of those systems were all to ready to explain how many thousands of watts their system would soak up.

*shrug* Just seems like a bragging rights thing to me. Plenty of SQL subs out there that would work much better in a daily system, listening to music, than would these things. If he was planning on comp'ing much more than the 'occasional' one I could see it more. But to me just looks liek someone trying to squeeze a sub into a role it wasn't designed for. Pick a sub that was designed for this role.

Bah why do I try. Next month the OP will be on here telling us what great SQ his BTL or 9500 setup has, and a whole new flock of people will run out to do the same thing. To each their own I guess.

i wont be here talkin about the SQ, i threw that out the window after my W3s. i dont care about SQ. its not my thing at all. and i shudnt say occasional comp, but im not going to nationals or anything. just looking for a couple trophies, something to show for my work. i picked the BTLs cus they are the subs to match what i have to power them and for burps, if im cautious with volume knob.

Good luck with your system man. meant no disrespect to you with my comments. Sounds like you are a better candidate for these drivers than I orignally suspected.

Cheers.

hey, no problem man. any constructive criticism that someone can give me, i will gladly take it. sems like the cooling is alot better for the BTLs also, plus theyre mor cheap, but i cud pick 2 of each one up for 1k shipped. so its either for me. im leaning towards the BTLs now though.

sq is for ******* anyways
Yeah, one note wonders are where its at man. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
We should all run prefab bandpass boxes, to be a real man.

Agreed, by doing well I meant not breaking -- I did not mean sounding good by any means //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The 9500 isn't a godawful sounding woofer... but I wouldn't call it an SQ woofer by any stretch of the imagination. The BTL sounds a hair better than the 9500 to me, but again, is still not a great sounding sub either.
