Cliffs: What length aero (3" diameter) to tune to 40hz?

Okay. So I received the DD 1508 that I bought from blackbonnie today... Not much you can say about these things besides beasty mother****er. On to my question.

My box will be 1 cube after port/sub displacement. I have a 3" aeroport and have never used an aeroport before, therefore I have absolutely no freaking clue on length tuning.... DD's site recommends "15.0 sq" vent x 18" long" for a tuning of 40 hz.

I'm assuming that since when using aero's you dont have as much area as a slot port, the length is the same way? Or do I just need an 18" long aero for tuning of 40 hz?

BTW I would like to also have a 2nd aero I can put in to tune it to 32 hz. Since 40 wont cut it daily, but I would like to get it metered and see what it can do in my truck.... I just wanna see what this thing CAN sound like on music (I have my 2 re se's for daily //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif)

heh. searched some more and found this http://www.psp-inc.com/psp-inc.com/cgi-bin/port_length_calculator.cgi
Its telling me flared port length of 10.71" for 40hz. I'm assuming that includes the flares... lol. cause straight port length is 9.71. I think i'll just go with the straight part of 9.71. Because IDK what kind of flare it is.
If you are using the PSP aeros with the flairs on the end use the flair port length, if you are just using a straight piece of PVC or similar use the straight port length.

well i meant i would use the straight port length and measure just the straight part. Cause I'm not sure if my aero's flare is the same depthwise. I just meant i would make sure the straight part is 9.71. Not overall 10.71 cause Then it might be like a 1/4" off or something....

also what about the variable tuning. will it kinda work?

I was thinking a ~10"L port for 40 hz and ~17 for 32.... even though the box volume changes, it is only a small difference.

no, it should be 10.71" over all, if you cut the straight part at 9.71" you will end up with a 14.71" long port (assuming you are using a PSP Aero)

PSP's instructions say to cut the straight piece 5" shorter than the length of the suggested flair port, (double check but I believe it's 5")

yeah i just figured that doing a aero is a lot more failsafe for me. I have a slot port on my re's.... but it just takes more time. I was hoping to have this box together early tommorrow morning in hopes of being able to mess with it by tomorrow night.

this is what I plan on it looking like. Just with an aeroport instead of a straight hole lol. I made it long that way I can use a different port to tune to 32 hz as well since that one had to be like 17 or some odd inches long lol.
