Dad wanting to replace OEM stereo system

Hey guys and gals my dad approached me today about him wanting to change his HU and inside speakers in his 1986 300SE Mercedes Benz, real nice car. He wants pure clarity and acoustic type sound, and real tight bass from his speakers. Being that his technology is pretty old in his Benz as far as stereo a nice setup will suit him. He's not really wanting to spend a lot of money but a decent amount i say around $400 would be good. What i had in mind was a Clarion HU cause he doesnt want a real flashy HU, and some Boston acoustic inside speakers, with maybe a decent amp. Give me your suggestions and what you think he should run. Im not yet sure on the size speakers in which are equipped in his Benz but i will find out.
