CVX replace or repair?

I have a CVX 12" D4 in a smaller ported box, on a Kicker ZX400.1. I inherited the setup for free for some work on my friends car. It is an 06 model i think, it has has a hard life, esp. being on such a small amp and has developed a rattle, supposedly caused by damage to the coil. Can the CVX be repaired, if so about how much does it cost, can i get the parts and do it myself? If the answer is that i should just replace it, i want something that picks up lows a lot better, this CVX has always sounded like shit anyway. I plan on re-using the box and amp with whatever i do, its in a 94 Eclipse hatch so i get a LOT of sound pretty easy and i have been running it with a rattling coil for 3 months so im not too worried about SQ. Also i know nothing about good brand subs but so far i have figured out that i want one of the following. Boston Acoustic G5, TREO TSX, or a RE SE. Im more leaning towards the RE. Which brings me to another question, with my ZX400 would i be any better off spending the extra for a RE SX over a RE SE? I definately want some sort of competition grade high quality unit, not some off the best buy shelf "name brand" piece. And lastly, i dont really have much of a budget but would i be better off selling the ZX 400.1 used and finding a more powerful mono amp?

G5! all the way and you would not have to replace amps and will sound incredibly better than that kicker could ever & still get almost as loud
The thing I was worried about with the G5 was my box. It seems like the G5 is more oriented towards sound quality which is always good, but im not that worried about it. If I were to go that route wouldn't it be better in a sealed enclosure? I have never been all that impressed with the CVX, it seemed very loud for a single 12 when my freind that bought it originally first got it but it hasnt ever sounded good on the lows. I would like to try a RE but I had never even heard of them until I was watching vids on Realm of Excursion and I kind of wanted to hear good feedback about them before I picked one up. Another thing I was thinking is that if I splurge now and spend the extra for the SX over the SE then sometime in the future I could pick up a bigger amp. On the topic of amps, what can I get that would compare to the kicker ZX line (which I am very impressed with). When I upgrade my amp should I get a ZX 750.1 and sell my ZX 400.1 used, or could I buy another ZX 400.1 and strap it on a single sub, or should I ditch the Kicker stuff and buy something else?

ok i just did some searching on amp strapping to inform myself a little better, first off I have a KX 400.1 NOT a ZX. So if I buy a RE SX, I would have to get it in D2 config. if I plan on strapping my amp to another. But my KX isn't stable to 1 ohm so until I got another amp I would have to run the sub as a 4 ohm load so as to not burn up my amp. I think I might just bust out the credit card and get a SX and another KX 400 all at once, but then I will probably need to upgrade my power wire as it is only 8 ga. Then there's the question of would I be happy with 2 KX 400.1's on a RE SX for around $350? Would this be pretty loud for daily music listening? Would one 4 ga. cable handle this? Would I be into the realm of charging system failure on my car?

the g5 sounds amazing in just about any box(ported @32hz, sealed, or sealed with radiator, and its high sensitivity means it will get loud + 3inches of x-max on that little bit of power

anywho even if u decide on the re which i fully support the brand & ur choice... 4 gauge would be plenty for that setup with the amps strapped
