Cvx Or Type R 15

cvx heard a 12 personally with 600 watts in a single cab truck box and it hurt my ears on some songs.....my type r with twice the power and box size didnt hurt my ears like this but i guess you can blame it on cabin gain etc... I would choose CVX
What kind of car was your type-r in?

FYI, double the airspace isn't always a good thing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

grand am, my type r was very loud and hurt my ears from time to time, but this cvx is very very similar to it in output but its newer and less mounting depth is why i like it.

Ahh, ok.

While regular cabs have less airspace to pressurize, they tend to be hard to get loud, especially when the cabs are all sealed up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I ran into that problem with my truck. While it is REALLY loud with the door open, when i seal the truck up it really loses a LOT of output.

Sorry, I mistook this for an open forum.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
I was just saying that there is more to this than meets the eye. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Don't think that I didn't read your post and understand where you are coming from, i just had a private conversation with tracy about it. thats all.

I see you are from Georgia....stop by Circuit City in Augusta if ya ever wanna hear some CVX's in action! I've got 6 in my Ranger and as soon as good ol Tracy gets my new amps out to me I'll be able to demo more than mids and highs...LOL

WINK WINK at Tracy...WINK WINK ... HINT HINT:p: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

back on topic

me and loyd both tested the CVX and the type R in the great 12 challenge

we were looking forward to testing the type r and i must admit the CVX didnt interest me much. Until we tested the CVX

the CVX is a very very nice driver. It is flat on the low end and fairly loud. It also took the power like a champ.

The Type R on the other hand was a very loud driver ( about 6th or 7th loudest in the challenge ) but it was not very linear ( peaky on the low end ) and didnt handle the power nearly as well as the CVX did

Some how the SPL burp results got misplaced for the CVX so i cant tell you off the top of my head which was louder, but i must say i was much more impressed in the CVX than the type r

P.S. The SQ listening results show that the CVX is a much better sounding driver, probably due to the fact that it is much more linear.

all in all I'd run a CVX , but what would i know about a driver

I guess it depends on what the person wants really. I don't really like the type-r for daily either because it doesn't handle loads of power great, but what can you expect with a sub thats rated for 500 RMS and has a 2" voice coil. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

But for the money, it does hold it's own very well against other drivers. I'm an SPL guy at heart, so the peak SPL numbers are what always grabs my attention, and it should be noted that the type-r was 6th loudest with nearly half the power that the 5th loudest sub had (in this case, an MD napalm).

I wish you knew the SPL stats on the CVX, as those numbers are what interest me the most. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Also, just an FYI, the CVX is RATED for 1000 RMS, twice of what the type-r is rated for. While I myself am comfortable feeding a type-r double it's RMS daily, i know when to turn the volume down while some others may not, so I don't feel comfortable telling EVERYONE that they can run 1000+ daily to one (usually I will tell a person 700-800 RMS for a type-r).

So for daily driving and safety's sake, you would be much better off mating a CVX to a 1000 RMS daily capable amp. I would hate for someone to blow up their sub because I told them to feed their sub double it's rated power.

soon my 3 CVX 12's will be in action ...Chad, cool man, glad you liked the woofer in the test. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
