4 12" rockford fosgate HX2 subs and 2 800.2 old school fosgate amp.

i had (2) 2 12" seal in a 15 H x 15 L x 30 W box (common box) and decided to upgrade to a port box. i know port require more volume than seal.

i build 2 12" box measuring 17 H x 15 D 32 W ported 1". wood thickness .75"

it's the biggest i could go.

box volume (Ft3) = 1.62

tuned frequency (FB)= 36 hz

according to the manual the mininum allow for port box is Vb (min.) 1.50 cu. ft.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now my problem here is i was told 2 12" ported would sound ALMOST like 4 12" seal. and honestly it's loud okay but it's no where NEAR as loud as my 4 12" is my box too small? also my port box is just a SLOT. not an L shape could this be the reason?

each sub will be punching a lil over 400 watts each out of my 800.2 ... will a 1.62 ft3 box be big enough for that much power? it kinda sound distorted when i go really loud

the L shape you are referring to is just a longer port for lower tuning, you are probably tuned WAYYY high if your port doesn't turn into an L. I haven't really run any specs or anything but 1 inch is a little small on the port area side of things.

thanks for the quick reply! i was using this website to help me design my box.

RE Enclosure Calculator

ignore the background. this was done at a friend's backyard.

according to the link provide it would give me 36hz when the 2nd port length is 0.

there is a divider inside the box to separate the chamber.

thanks for the reply 40zgloves. i spend almost 3 hours buildin this box. With everybody's reply i feel like im going to suffer a loss unless there's something i could do to make this box successful?

I know it sucks but I would sell the box to some craigslist niqqa and start from scratch. In the enclosure and design section of the forum in a sticky is a bunch of box plans, a few would work great for your application, I personally would go 4-4.5 cubes tuned around 32-36 depending on your preference. I took a box plan for 2 cubes at 36 hz with 32 inches of port for my 2 8's and they sounded amazing. The plans are a wonderful tool to get started on a box and I';m sure you would find something that should work great.

i check out the free box design and im going to try facing two of these boxes UP with the port being closer to the rear deck to fire inside the cabin.

one problem. according to the subwoofer manual the sub required mininum of 1.5cu ft3. now in this picture there is a hole for 2 subs but the box is only 2 cuft3 . does this factor in also? or should i go 3 cu ft.3 ?

UPDATES:i Just went out and measure the space i have going ACROSS but the wheel well is in the way. so if i was to build the box toward my amp rack i could build a huge box up to 10 cu ft3. now i know that number is pretty ****ing big so c'mon guys. GIVE ME YOUR BEST!!! PORTED! dont let me down!
