Custom Fiberglass Progress Thread: check it out

if youre bringing the fleece all the way to the rubber molding then how are those chambers going to be sealed?sorry but I just cant see this working out, doesnt seem like a good design to me
you cant see it in teh picture...but i actually glue teh fleece all teh way down teh side of teh trunk until it is against the "MDF skeleton box"...i left just a little slack incase teh seal is not great so i can finish teh seal with resin...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif u guys jsut dont have faith lol

looking real good, i had a qusetion about the great stuff foam. I want to put it in the air chambers located throughout the back of my explorer also possible in the back hatch. I've heard good and bad things. Someone even told me that after the foam settles that if a deep note hit i could possibly dent the side of the truck Because it kills the flex capabillities. Seeing how you've dealt with this what have you heard, thanks

biggest problem I've heard is that if you use the wrong stuff (high expanding foam vs low expanding foam) that it will skin over and harden on the outside, while continuing to expand inside and warp/bend/blow out panels. \

I like what crazy4ozs has done though, that sh!t will be solid.

like Cam said before me, there are HUGE differences between high expansive and low expansive foam, i used low expansixe...and when u do it, but sure to do it slowly, because if u put too much on at once, your right, it will harden over the top and continue to expand on teh inside, thus warpign ur panels...so put small amounts on, make sure its cured and then throw more on top of it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

another hint is...whne u first lay it down, the foam will seem to "shrink" almost curreling in on its self...DO NOT take this as an excuse to put more on top...it will re-expand and be fine...just be safe with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey let me ask you something about your fleecing. What did you use to fasten the fleece? Ive tried hot glue before with distastrous results, and superglue is retarded... and i dont wanna staple my fiberglass work and possibly break it... im doing some fiberglass work in my trunk too, but nothing as ****insweet as what youre attempting..

i am using a special type of glue, that is "heat resistant" its almost like liquid nail...all u have to do is make sure that whatever ur using can wistand teh heat taht the resin is going to put off...
