Crunch GPV2000.1 questions

Ok I am running a Crunch 2000.1 Amplifier on 2 kicker comp Vr subs.

The Crunch GPV 2000.1 amp is

250 watts rms @ 4 ohms, 500 watts max @ 4ohms

500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, 1000 watts max @ 2ohms

1000 watts @ 1ohm, 2000 watts max @ 1ohm

My kickers are 400 watts RMS, 800 watts max

Am I better off running the amp @ 4ohms and getting a continuos of 250 watts RMS even though its below the rms of the subs, or can I run @ 2ohms and push 500 watts rms which is a little over rms for the subs and if so, would there be a chance that some how the amp would spike the 1000 watts and blow the subs if I went down to 2ohms.

Ok so i get the concept that my subs are 4 ohm so I cant wire them at 2 ohms I have to wire them down to 1ohm, but how do I adjust the gain accordingly, the amp does not have an actual "gain" it has a Bass boost control, sub sonic control, low pass control, and a level control. so how would I get the right gain?

The level control, controls the power output. Normally when setting gains you set it to get the maximum power output with minimal clipping. In your case, you don't want maximum power, you would use 800w (the combined power handling of your subs) in the equation: V = sqrt(watts*impedance) and since your going to be running at 1 ohm it makes it fairly simple V = 28.3V

But truth be told, 1000w compared to 800w isn't much...I don't have personal experience with those subs but most subs can handle more than rated since they won't be seeing 1000w while playing music. But that's a whole different story...

unless you somehow significantly clip your speakers, i HIGHLY doubt that that amp is capable of blowing your subs. I had 2 on a "1000w rms" Fosgate amp that is considerably more powerful than a "1000w rms" Crunch amp. Set your gain accordingly and you should be satisfied.

And Im not saying the Crunch is a bad amp, its actually pretty decent for a budget setup. It just wont do 1000rms
