Crossover design simplified..

simple to me at least..

1st order, 2nd order, 3rd order crossover design can be simplified by just remembering that a 1st order 6db per octave high pass crossover uses only 1 component, capacitor wired in series with the driver. A 1st order 6db per octave low pass crossover uses only 1 component, inductor wired in parallel with the driver

A 2nd order 12db per octave high pass crossover uses 2 components, capacitor wired in series and a inductor wired parallel with the driver, 2nd order low pass is wired just the opposite with the inductor wired in series and the capacitor wired in parallel.

3rd order 18db per octave crossover uses 3 components, 2 inductors 1 capacitor or 2 capacitors 1 inductor depending on HP or LP design

4th order 24db per octave HP or LP crossover uses 4 components, 2 inductors 2 capacitors.

etc etc..

Designing and building crossovers that complement the acoustic characteristics of a selected component driver may seem overwhelming at first but with a little knowledge, online calculators, tools and some quality parts you will be well on your way to doing it yourself, just like me.

Passive Crossover Slopes

**** all this, go active
I'm not quite there yet (experience wise), if and when i ever finish tweaking the current bi-amped system then i will look into going active but it will probably be cost prohibitive and just out of my league, and that's okay because i am always happy with whatever i have, it always beats nothing hands down..
