Critical Mass UL12's

We have already addressed that point. One guy getting a great deal over the internet on one speaker does not make that the price everyone pays for a UL. If CMASS wants to drop the UL's to a more reasonable price, yes you'd see my argument dry up. But as of yet, they have not.
"Your main arguement is price"

Actually my only argument is price. Yes the UL's lack in other ways, but no different than every sub ever made. Every speaker is nothing more than a series of compromises that come together to form a final assembly. No I would never consider a UL for a ground pounder system, or an SPL one obviously. But yes I would certainly consider one for a more SQ/SQL minded setup, if I wanted to run sealed and had 2kw+ on tap. But that's a pretty small niche in the market, add to that a hefty price tag and you have yourself a couple pretty good reasons why these subs will never get the attention that a DD 9500, RE XXX or even a JL W7 will. *shrug*

I dont think you started any argument. Hell, this is just how we talk around here anyway.

I get what you're saying about a small niche, people want the best bang for the buck. I fall in that small niche wanting a good SQ/SQL setup, and It performs well beyond my needs.
That's what I was after too, spent $1k, have 3kw on tap... but I purchased two xxx's that I would put up against a single UL any day. (just using xxx's as an example that I purchased, any from my list would still give the same result)
My two subs that cost approx what 1 UL would (cost less than the average single UL price actually) but would get louder, and likely produce less distortion a any given output level, than a single UL. But my two subs also require a considerably larger box, to name the major down-side compared to the single UL.

Right now I have 2 UL's and 3000w. I could send 5k or more to them easily, but thats just too much for me.

One of the HUGE reasons I like the UL12's is the weight. I dont want 300+ pounds of audio gear in my trunk. My entire setup (2 UL's, box, amp) weighs about as much as 1 XXX.

Both subs, your box, and your amps all together weighs 70lbs?

Actually 16.6 lbs each. The box I made is sealed 1.3ft per sub. I forgot the actual dimensions!
Yep that sounds about right for weights then. Impressive. My system is in a large V8 truck that wont even notice the added weight. lol
Plus Im known to use concrete in my installs, so I dont worry too much about raw speaker weights. But for alot of people that's critical.

I will add this, I am in a 04 ram, without all the audio stuff, I was at 14-15 mpg, now with it installed I am 10-11 mpg.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

but the result is worth it, IMO:D

dude, do you want me to send you the entire spec sheet, at the end of the day you are way off, in practical, the smaller works better, if you put a UL in a sealed box bigger than 1.6 you can call it IB and it will get slap happy.

the website shows the specs, i don't need it again. yes, there is a reason the smaller box works better, you are raising the Q and the corner which gives you more SPL up top while losing the the deeper SPL (below the corner)

whatever size box this woofer works in, pretty much ANY other woofer is going to have a lower System Q in the same box meaning (you can make it smaller to get the same FR response) Thats my point! Its not a small box woofer ... not even close ... try porting it, You're looking at problem 8 or 10 cubic feet tuned very low for a flat response.

You can put low Q subwoofers in TINY boxes... 1.6 cubic feet is HUGE by some standards.

also 1.6 cubic feet is FAR from IB with that woofer.

1.6 cubic feet on a 4HP (500000 million times more BL) might be more or less IB worthy appropriate - careful what you consider IB.

All I'm really aruging here is that any woofer with a Q of 0.8 is not a small box woofer... its a sealed box woofer - big difference.

people get this crap mixed up all the time. For example the fi. Btl... very low Q THAT is a perfect example of a small box woofer and the proof is in the response. Look at the box size that people put that woofer is... makes the response very non-linear. They like it, its an SPL driver, so what. My point is, if you put a 12" BTL in a sealed box and wanted the same alignment as the UL, you would probably have to put it in 0.25 cubic feet or some crazy low number like that.
